Grand Theft Are You Fcking Kidding Me
May 1, 2008 4:05pm
I don't want the government to do anything about anything and I think anyone who does call for government action should be accused of being a fascist and dismissed out of hand by anyone who considers themselves an individual.
HOWTO keep your laptop from being searched at the border (it's hard)
May 1, 2008 4:03pm
Why don't we just tell the government that we don't want our electronics searched and the border and we won't allow it any more. Write your congressmen or whomever. The law can be changed and the policies can be changed and we don't have to put up with nonsense like this.
Gun owners are the happiest people in the US
April 21, 2008 10:16pm
I'm shocked at the shocked attitude of this article and some of the comments here. You really are surprised that people have guns in their homes? In America.
Ill. Rep. Monique Davis: it's dangerous for children to know atheists exist, orders atheist to stop testifying
April 8, 2008 2:24pm
I sent her a fax explaining the difference between authoritarianism and free thinking and which one our Founding Fathers set up our country to protect, which they fought a war against, and which religion supports and which it is opposed to. I doubt it will make a difference, but glad the fact the FBI hasn't shown up at my door to ask me why I think I can send faxes to people about not believing in god, there's still room for debate in this country.
Best practices for water imbibing: "Just drink when you're thirsty"
April 4, 2008 7:06am
By the time you're thirsty you're already 2% dehydrated, according to the US Army Survival Manual.
Dangers of a giant national database -- article from 1967 was eerily prescient
April 1, 2008 12:27pm
Intelligent people seem to be confused as to why CCTV, databases and civil liberties are being eroded with no one standing up for what's right. I'd like to explain it: A whole lot of people believe that it's more important to do what you're told than to do what you think is right. Those people are fascists, though we don't know them as such. Rather we know them as people raised under authoritarian parenting. By the process of training a child to become an obedient unquestioning nearly mindless slave to conformity, you create inside their psyches an overwhelming desire and dependence on other people in authority telling them what to do. For them, thinking for yourself, being responsible, is horror and chaos. For them to think other people aren't under similar constraints is abject fear. So you can see how easy it would be for these closet fascists to put up cameras, monitor everyone's behavior, give up their own freedoms willingly (because they don't want them in the first place and have never tried them), and want you to obey or go to jail.
Woman told to remove nipple rings for Texas flight
March 27, 2008 5:48pm
This is shocking! I have 10 ga rings in my nipples and 8 ga titanium barbell in my penis and in the last five years I've passed through airports in San Francisco, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Philippines, and Maui several times and never set off the metal detector. It doesn't require pliers to take off my piercings, because they have captive ball rings which pop in and out, but some piercings do require pliers.
I never once thought that anyone would confiscate my jewelry, and only feared I'd have to show it to someone if I set off the detector. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine someone might insist I remove the jewelry and leave it behind. I am absolutely flabbergasted. Where is common sense? What is this authoritarian blind obedience coming from and why are we accepting it. Sue them, sue them now and sue them hard. Not just for the pain of having to re-pierce the piercing but for theft and violating my privacy and human rights!
Creationist documentary premiere bars science blogger, accidentally lets in Richard Dawkins
March 21, 2008 8:10am
I don't get it? Why are they trying to get in to a religious documentary? Doesn't interest me. I already know they don't have a leg to stand on. I'm sure RD didn't hear anything he hasn't heard a thousand times. He'd be accomplishing more by protesting outside with signs showing lines from his book.
Fingertip biometrics at Disney turnstiles: the Mouse does its bit for the police state
March 15, 2008 8:20am
In the Philippines, shotgun-armed guards stand in front of any business dealing with money, cops tote full auto AR-15 rifles, and every time you go in the mall you line up, lift your arms for a pat down and and open your bag for a quick search from an armed security officer.

Derren Brown's Tricks of the Mind video -- baffling mentalism
December 23, 2007 1:41pm
With all the fools who "believe" in nonsense these days and are voting with their faith rather than after well researched reasoning can we really afford to pander to these kinds of tricksters? For every seeming miracle they perform another sucker falls hook line and sinker for the mystical mumbo jumbo of their parent's religion. His trick being sufficient proof of the supernatural for a mind absent of critical thought to leap to preposterous conclusions about the nature of reality.
Confusing sandwich coupon

Down is up, up is down, I can't take it, it's too confusing. [Lenny leaps to his death] It's not that confusing.
Icelandic "shopping terrorist" menace thwarted at JFK
December 21, 2007 5:19pm
In my day Icelandic people were welcome to overstay their visas and any authorities who noticed were instructed to offer a friendly warning and take no other action against our harmless allies. Now-a-days our stooges have no common sense.

How to Spot a Cylon
December 17, 2007 10:08pm
The reason Baltar couldn't tell a Cylon from a human is because THEY'RE All CYLONS! He's got a mental block in his android brain that prevents him from recognizing and admitting the truth.

Brits! Petition the PM to stop national children's database
November 30, 2007 11:31am
Why do the Brits allow or even suggest these things when it seems clear that it's outrageous? Is their government full of incompetents like ours?
Turkey may charge Dawkins' publisher for "insulting believers"
November 30, 2007 11:29am
I haven't read it, nor visited Turkey, but I can tell which one is stupid by their immoral use of force outside of self-defense.
Driver tasered for refusing to sign traffic ticket
November 27, 2007 3:49pm
No, no. Why should the cop have to respectfully respond to this idiot's nonsense. If I was that officer I would've assumed that guy was either high, mentally retarded, or just a big freaking jerk. The police officer clearly assumed the latter because when the guy finally refused to sign the ticket he'd had enough. He assumed the jerk wanted to go to jail and he was happy to oblige. Telling him he was under arrest was no surprise to this jerk and once he started to walk away, tasering him was a final act of self-defense. Everyone with any sense knows there's no point in arguing with a cop, even if he's wrong. Even if he's violent! You don't fight back, you take your ticket and sign it and fight it in court if you feel you were wronged. If this officer thought that what he was doing was wrong he would have to quit his job. There's no room for argument there.
Science and carbs - A big fat lie revisited
November 18, 2007 9:27am
I lost 27 pounds in one month on Zoloft, with no exercise, just lying around depressed all day, every day. After I lost all that weight I felt a lot better about myself. It doesn't do that for everyone though. Some people gain weight.
One Laptop Per Child sale starts
November 14, 2007 12:19am
Two questions:
Who says a computer will help them in any conceivable way? Wouldn't a book be a better learning tool or a qualified teacher or a school?
What's stopping them or their parents from selling their laptops and buying necessities like clothing, food, medicine, shelter, or something they don't need?
US intelligence honcho channels Orwell, redefines privacy
November 11, 2007 10:21pm
Privacy should be increased as society evolves. A thriving economy with limited corruption will engender a peaceful society. Fairness, justice and minding ones own business eliminates any need for government intelligence.
HeavyInk.com - a mashup of Amazon.com-for-comic-books
November 8, 2007 7:06pm
I'm already a member of HeavyInk.com, but call me retarded because I spent at least a minute trying to decipher this post. The whole "mashup of Amazon.com-for-comic-books" confused me to no end. What's a mashup? Is this on Amazon.com? And what does HeavyInk have to do with Facebook? Guh!
Soviet propaganda cartoon DVDs
November 4, 2007 2:37pm
I buy everything I see. I have so much money and no standards whatsoever. I even have a robo goat on order. Keep 'em coming.
Library's clever answer to network filtering
November 1, 2007 11:31am
If it's on the internet it isn't "abuse". There's no evidence to suggest that children seeing anything ever is traumatizing to them, especially if their questions are answered truthfully. Ignorance, lying and confusion are what causes childhood trauma, not information.
Donovan to open meditation-based college
October 30, 2007 2:57pm
Meditation is as much mind-blanking mysticism as religion, superstition and socialism. The Eastern spiritual arts are in no ways superior. All mysticism is antithetical to reason.
KidRobot's Yo Gabba Gabba! hoodies
October 26, 2007 5:18pm
How can we even pretend to market shows to children in the US when the best scientific research indicates and experts agree that all TV is bad for kids, and not so good for adults either?
Hollowed out editions of your favorite books
October 23, 2007 4:37pm

CNN's Glenn Beck: "people who hate America" losing homes in So CA wildfires
October 23, 2007 11:42am
He can say whatever stupid crap he wants but if a marine or firefighter kicks his ass that marine or firefighter should be arrested. This is America and violence is not an acceptable response to differences of opinion or glib comments. All you can do is ignore him or argue your opposing point.
Japanese women could be "safer" at night by wearing vending-machine disguises
October 20, 2007 10:56am
Excuse me, but if there's a need for that sort of thing, I think women would do better to stay home or go out in groups.
Dumbledore is gay -- Rowling
October 20, 2007 10:55am
It's none of my business what consenting fictional characters do in the privacy of their own home, nor if they want to kiss and hold hands in public.
Dungeons & Dragons 4.0 Makes Remote Pen-and-Paper Play Easier
October 16, 2007 3:17pm
This isn't what I want at all. I want someone to tell me a story and I want to visualize it in my head and then react to it by telling a little story of my own, and I don't want to see any maps unless I've drawn them myself, and I can roll my own dice thank you.
If people wanted to do this, if getting everyone together is the reason they don't play, they could go into chat, turn on their webcams and microphones and do it right now. I don't know about most people, but I would prefer to role-play with people I know, and I simply don't know anyone, nor have I met anyone who plays D&D since 4th grade.
Which laws don't we enforce and why?
October 15, 2007 11:48am
I follow all the rules, am constantly scared to death of being arrested for trumped up or false charges and try to stay home as much as possible. That's the real future of humanity.

Boing Boing tv: Ask "Simpsons" director David Silverman

Boing Boing tv: Online Pujas/World's Most Polluted
October 8, 2007 9:06am
For the record I don't like this boing boing tv business. I'm reading, I want to read, not get out the headphones, switch to headphones, wait for the video to trigger the wireless to turn on and then go back and start the video over, etc.
Modern phrenologists "predict" terrorism with biometrics
October 6, 2007 11:06pm
This is like trying to predict the weather. In order to get enough information to make any prediction you'd have to interfere with the subject so much as to make any readings meaningless. It's preposterous to even consider that anyone could or would be able to record the brain responses of a single actual terrorist in action, let alone the dozens it would take to form any scientific theory as to what they're behavior is like before they commit an attack. And who says all terrorists think they same things? Surely suicide bombers looks a lot different than bombers just planting a device and expecting to get off the plane before it explodes. Is there a difference between religious and political martyrs? Christian and Muslim martyrs? Impossible.
Function of the appendix found? A good bacteria safehouse.
October 6, 2007 4:13pm
It's always been something of an unverified urban legend that the appendix is useless and vestigial. I've read and known many experts and conspiracy theorists who've disagreed for years.
Chinese restaurant MFC is a mashup of McDonald's and KFC.

Wow, they're so far off it's astounding.
To join a group which rallies around an irrational idea is to agree that the idea is authoritative and must therefore be obeyed mindlessly. From this submission the leaders of the group are able to demand and justify any action, because the idea takes precedence over everything, including human rights. This is where persecution and genocide are born.
Only people who see themselves as individuals are able to stand apart from the "might makes right" philosophy that is inherent in all religious organizations, and instead cooperate with their fellow men, eschewing violence.
