Problematic logo design from Adidas and Au

July 18, 2008 11:19am

@3: Seeing a symbol and relating it to another hugely-famous symbol is far reaching? I disagree wholeheartedly.

The visual connection doesn't mean there's a connection of meaning, of course. And these are anything but "random double-S" marks. They're very close to the angular, Nazi SS symbol.

Add the very thin model posed in a way that makes her shoulder jut out a bit and accentuate how small she looks and -- even though she's far from starvation -- I think of conecntration camp prisoners.

On top of that, the use of a black-and-white photo reinforces all of the above because most images from the camps are black-and-white.

The thin woman, her pose, and the black-and-white photo are minor poinst, but they make things worse when all put together.

I know others have already said some of what just I did, but please count this as corroboration rather than simple repetition.

Kanye West rant was hammered out on a MacBook Air

How does the fact that someone used a copmuter to type a rant make this a worthy of a "gadgets" blog entry?

NOAH concept monocycle: Segway meets Tron

I know this is not a production item yet, but it's way past "concept"...

Acme's tri-panel portable rig offers built in multi-display

June 5, 2008 11:18am

@2: True, it might impress someone, and I'm sure some people will buy it simply for the shiny-new-look.

I was referring to using it as true behind-the-curtain/backstage gear. Live events like I mentioned often involve truckloads of gear that gets set up in huge stacks among the production crew.

I would likely have my Photoshop tools and layer lists on the left screen, alternate between Photoshop and PowerPoint workspaces on the center screen, and have the live-to-the-house PowerPoint feed on the right screen.

Anyone who works on-site and behind-the-scenes at events (corporate meetings, press events, product launches, etc.) might take a look at this once specs are reliably available.

As a graphic designer, I've loaded many, many multiple-monitor setups in and out of ballrooms, theaters, and convention centers and can tell you: faster setup + fewer cases + fewer wires = worth checking out.

Puzzle alarm clock demands more than mere wakefulness

It seems to me that any of these would only get one use in many households. After that, you'd either be dead because someone else in your house would kill you for taking so long to turn it off or it would be broken by that person.

Echo Park Time Travel Mart Serves All Your Time Travel Needs

Those slushy-spinner parts look suspiciously like a dual flux capacitor setup. Different, sure, but maybe this is an updated version?

And at the time travel store, no less! I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Fuzzy Flash Drive Cozies from NifNaks

November 15, 2007 4:31am

So, I pull a fuzzy, wool item out of my pocket and immediately touch it to the metal port on my computer?

Is there some static discharge/resistance property to the "pliable stiffener" they apply to these things?

I'm willing to be labeled overly paranoid about this, so someone please enlighten me
