Lights Out: "turn your electricity off" event photos

W. James Au: You assume this was something more than a publicity stunt. Now the liberals can say that they sat in the dark for an hour, and they obviously care more about the environment than you do.
Besided, who wants CF bulbs? They producer poorer quality light, cost a decent bit more and contain more lead than regular bulbs? Between this and things like Sheryl Crow's "joke" about using one sheet of toilet paper, why are they trying to radically alter our life style? I don't want to read by candlelight and wipe with a pine cone in the United States, especially not in the year 2007.
More US Warcraft players than farmers

Hm, interesting piece! Just remember though, larger population doesn't mean it's more important than a smaller populace. That's why, politically, we still have the electoral college. Otherwise we might as well hold national elections only in NYC, LA, DC, Miami, Chicago, Houston, Seattle, etc and the rest of the country would be screwed.
Solar powered immigrant shelter provides Internet access

Thank goodness that there are some people with sense left in the world.
I have no problem with people putting whatever on their property. However, if this is aiding illegal immigration (or other illegal activity), then there is a serious problem. There is a legal way of coming to this country and it is this process that should be followed and respected. I'm not in favor of putting water fountains up or other items to facilitate illegal activity, as it only encourages it. Projects like this definitely help to cause the volume of people to increase.
I'm sorry the conditions in your country are not what they should be and I welcome all who would want to come to the United States with open arms...but only if they follow the legal process for immigration! Those who seek the greatness and opportunities of this country with a willful violation of our laws should have NO helping hand. If there are people dying in the desert trying to illegally enter the US that serves as a deterrent to others who might follow their path. I'm sorry that our immigration process is a time consuming one but if you want to come here then that's the path you need to take.
Same with the illegal rallies they have held in the past few months/years. If a bunch of illegals are protesting inside the US about unfair immigration, I'd like to see INS at every rally loading these people onto buses/planes and taking them back home.
I'm sorry if you feel guilty but appease your conscious in some other way. Join a lobbiest group and try to get the laws changed, start a grass roots movement, but don't willingly violate the law because you don't agree with it. And if you're caught I hope for nothing but the harshest punishment. Perhaps an all expense paid trip to Club Gitmo?
Naomi Wolf on Colbert Report: 10 steps to fascism

Har. Like anything Naomi Wolf says is credible in the first place (remember kids, she was Al Gore's "Image Consultant"). So of course this book is going to side with the leftwing nutballs that are still upset that Gore lost in 2000.
I'm a rightwinger (who doesn't read political blogs) who very often frequents BoingBoing. I have absolutely no problem with Boing's leftwing bias as (a): I like to see what the other side says about things and (b): the non-political stuff is always fascinating. The thing I find the funniest is how open minded the left is, provided of course that you agree with them.
But hey, it all works out.
No friends yet.

Oh please! Granted BoingBoing is openly leftist, but this is just one step too far. You guys are lambasting a scripted reality game show as being torture? That's just utter nonsense.
I caught a couple of episodes of Solitary 2.0 one night, when it was really late and there was nothing else on. So say these volunteers are being tortured is just flat wrong on one level, and just stupid on another.
This isn't the Running Man or the Long Walk or other fictional examples of torture entertainment. The contestants arn't executed or maimed following their participation. They don't have life-long psychological scars from their time on a game show. Sure someone might eat a foul-tasting blend of their favorite foods. Sure, someone might have to recite a complex message after moving a load of bricks. But to equate this as torture is just stupid. Being as the worst thing than can happen is the contestants don't receive the prize and lose a game, this hardly compares to forced captivity and real torture as has been seen over the course of human history.
The over-reaction from my fellow young people (20s and 30s) is just sad. In their quest to find something wrong with such a program, they make these grandiose claims. And when viewed by other trendy "radicals", the claims get bigger and more absurd claims and everyone feels better than they can spot such horrible things. But when non Code Pink members/non left-wing extremists..you guys look like you guys like you're sheltered, guilt-ridden liberals that try to apply poorly constructed arguments so something that is utterly pointless, in this case a game show. I mean, come on.
I hope one day I hope you guys will turn your attention to truly important matters, like the fact that some want a government who can't deliver the mail to be in charge of the health care system.
