For all the non-portuguese speakers, I can translate the headlines on the link Dr. Omni sent - Globo is our major news provider in Brazil. The video title says "Shooting ends with 12 killed in Rio", and the other headlines say things like "Military Police commander is shot in slum", "A thousand agents raid a slum in Rio", "Even shootings change airport routine"... There you see what it's like to live here, and why I want to leave Brazil. And Rio is NOT Brazil's most dangerous city. But, knowing where to go, you can be (relatively) safe.
