Kevin Kelly: Better Than Free

February 3, 2008 3:44am

point one, copyrighting is a western concept invented by corporations to protect and allow amortisation of their capital investment. Asia has never bought the concept, Japan sent spies to copy transistor technology in U.S. then produced quantaties of superior product and eventually shut down U.S. radio manufacturing. If you speak in abstracts you must recognize that the concrete applications have significant effect on econimies.

Point two, copying reduces the value of given original but makes it immediately more accessable to more individuals, thereby increasing the intrinsic value of copying itself. Providing disemination of ideas and thought is deemed a "value" in itself over ownership.

Can Ethernet Cabling Become Art?

And there is a good reason to be neat. I was trained as an electrician, learned to wire panel boxes from a master electrician, In the case of 440/220/110 volts there is safety in neatness. Believe me. Tracing cuircuits neatly, squaring your leads, and labeling is mandatory some places.
And yes it is nice to look at.

FBI buries docs showing US officials stole nuke secrets?

January 20, 2008 5:23am

not much to add except what's new? The U.S. has been giving it's secrets to the wrong people for a long time, either by design, by accident, or by deeds done by some greedy underpaid federal employee. Not to mention our flight schools training terrorists and our universities educating them. ho hum

Wow, that's a flashback, raised my kids playing this era Sim city. They learned macro economics better from that game than any high school course.
In fact some enrterprising teachers I knew used it as a class team project. Now lets see how I can screw up the code!

McDonald's UK CEO: kids are fat because of video games

January 11, 2008 5:12am

Processed foods, in lieu of market fresh whole foods, and less exercise are the main contributors to overweight america. We have forgotten how to cook, two income families, 2.5 kids in afterschool sports programs, no time to sit and share a meal at home. It's a life style issue.

From Nazi collaborator to Fortune 500 - companies that got rich on the Reich

January 8, 2008 4:30am

50 + years later... Tempered with the passage of time, hard for me to get upset over someones grandfather running a bussiness in Nazi Germany.
It's not like they are present day Nazis.
If you want to point fingers look at Switzerland, "neutral" during the war, they profited off everyone including the Prisoners of concentration camps, and wealth stolen from them. It was a bad chapter in history, maybe we learned something from that era.
Then we have Joe Ratzinger...
