Meh.

This might just be a resident of a Manhattan talking, but this strikes me as pragmatic. In the last 3 weeks, two people have been robbed and one person murdered on my girlfriend's block. The murder was probably gang-related, but the robberies both involved students; one had her iPod taken and one his iPhone.

While I'm certainly hesitant to advocate a society that runs around armed with Tasers, this doesn't sound like the most egregious measure for someone concerned about her safety.
