Coupon queen spends $10/week on family groceries

May 16, 2008 10:17am

I am imagining myself standing in line behind someone like this, as they argue the finer points of coupon loopholes with the grocery clerk.

"No, you see, you should be PAYING ME to buy this cereal because it's two for one and I am buying two boxes and using two coupons..."

"Uum..I'm going to have to call my supervisor."

etc.

Still you have to admire her resourcefulness.

Taking pictures on LA's Red Line violates the "9/11 Law"

May 14, 2008 2:53pm

I was visiting Paris two summers ago, travelling with a backpack and a skateboard.

One night, I was late and caught the LAST commuter train back to the suburbs of Ponteau-Combault, where I was staying.

When I arrived at the station and saw the television schedule, it said ONE MINUTE left and the train was visible in the distance.

I was so relieved I took out my Nikon coolpix and tried to document this close call. (To send back home as a blog post: "Hey, caught the last train almost got stranded in Paris overnight, etc.")

Before I boarded the train, a security guard with a DOG on a leash came to see me. "We'll have to confiscate your camera," he said in French. I objected to this, and explained why I was taking the photo.

Because the train doors were closing -- and probably because I was a white guy with a Quebec flag on my skateboard, let's be honest -- he let me go, saying photography was not allowed.

Creepy situation! Why is everyone who takes photos assumed to be a pervert or terrorist?

I think we need to brew up some fake "photography liscences" to fool security guards.

Wow, that Tigerlight.net site is actually pretty rad!

This encroaching police state is a proud supporter of NASCAR.

(Seriously though it does look like an amazing product, which would make things a lot easier fo rpolice officers and soldiers. I just get nervous about the pepper spray being used all the time.)

Am I the only one who didn't care for Y: The Last Man?

Seems the plot went nowhere, just adding a bunch of twists for no reason.

(Oh, now they're running from cannibals? Lesbian sex between characters? A man turns out to be a robot? An ex Canadian pop star is a Tokyo crime boss? etc.)

Also, are we supposed to believe that after THREE YEARS of walking around together, they would still be calling her "Agent 355?"

I loved this series in the beginning but gave up after book #6...

Apart from that, everyone here should read "100%" by Paul Pope.

Two Girls 1 Cup: a grandmother reacts.

November 29, 2007 9:22pm

I wish BoingBoing would stop posting about this. I mean, sure we're ironically being hip about this...but it's really sick.

I haven't seen the video but why is it fun to see people reacting to something so genuinely vile??

You are supposed to post about WONDERFUL things -- and there is a whole world of interesting, curious, lively, fascinating stuff out there.

Why focus on this kind of really sick stuff that gives the internet a bad name? I can't reccomend this site to friends now, they'll think I'm a perv by association. (And yes, I'm calling people who watch the video pervs. If you went to see this in person -- let's say a tent, late at night, at some hellish Coney Island --- what would that make you?

Please, please stop. I'd expect this from Warren Ellis, but not here. :(

Amnesty's Unsubscribe Me video reenacts CIA stress-position torture

November 22, 2007 9:44am

I think the ad should somehow explain how long the guy has been there.

Right now, you don't get the sense that it's six hours.

They should also explain that the detainee is told the floor is electrified or that he will be shot if he moves.

Right now -- it's very powerful, don't get me wrong -- I just think they should add the phrase "waiting for the guard....FOR SIX HOURS."

Walking Dead 7: The Calm Before -- compelling, pitiless zombie comic

November 21, 2007 9:28am

This should be made into an HBO series, shot with the gritty looks of "Band of Brothers."

Amazing it's written by Robert Kirkman who did "Battle Pope!"

E3 is one big advertisement, it's nice to see some people messing it up...
