Am I reading well?
Because the first transgenic protein for humans has almost 30 years and is used today worldwide by millions of people. It is recombinant insulin.
It was created in the late seventies.
According to the Wikipedia:
"1978 Genentech produces human insulin in Escheria coli bacteria using recombinant DNA techniques, licenses to Eli Lilly"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insulin
Future has been among us for a long time.
PS: Nothing of Franken here. We are all transgenic, from the moment we get a retrovirus, it inserts into our DNA, making it human-viral hybrid. So, we are all transgenic in that sense.
