Hey Nick D, give it up!
To take your complaints one at a time:
where did you get the Christian Science bit?
The word "Muppet" has been used before, hasn't it? You can't have missed it !
What makes you think i need to be told what to do with my so-called beliefs?
"make war with ideas, not with men"
And who said anything about alien overlords? The Masons are (just about) human. Perhaps they do unconsciously serve other-dimensional entities such as the Archons described by the Gnostics, but that's not so relevant.

Language is a tool that can be put to creative use, and a weapon, but only the lesser minds take it 100% literally and proceed to apply it through violent acts.
Anyway, violence by itself will not resolve this situation, and terrorism (of all colours) has historically been exploited by fascists to justify repression.
Restriction of our freedom and delimitation of our possibility is embedded in our very language which conditions our thought, and so it is my predicament to subvert that language . Guanatanamo is the logical progression from "Freedom is not free" which is a word-virus.
You are welcome to your old-school conservative concepts of coherency. I am not here to argue, and this ain't something that will ever be resolved by argument of the kind you see on CNN.
Please do not betray us now that we have almost completely pwned the pro-war dupes!

We are all cozily, self-indulgently, talking about people being kidnapped and tortured.
And all we can do is state our position on the matter . What else is there we can do?
To those who say "so what are you going to do about it apart from bitch?" i say , ask yourself this question.
Me, I am going to bitch till the cows come home, and i hope lots of other people bitch as loudly as possible, because what Saddam was supposed to be doing in Iraq WAS NONE OF THE US's GODDAMN BUSINESS. And only the terminally deluded deny that the only goddamn business the US has any interest in is about who is going to control the oil resources in the Middle East.
To all the american war apologists here: Billions of people HATE the US not because they are jealous of your stolen wealth and plastic shopping mall reality, but because the US is acting like a global bully, rapist and cop. What happens outside your borders is none of your goddamn business, and if you make it so, be prepared for what you get.
War is war , and there are no rules. People will hit back in whatever way they can, because they are deperately trying to protect themselves against a hi-tech superpower.

Wanna get misinformed on any drug-related topic? go erowid!
The idea behind erowid is so naive and so dodgy, it's like all the proof one needs that drugs do not necessarily open one's mind, but , in many cases , promote shut-down of all critical faculties.

Video: The Paradox of Choice, or Why Apple Only Sells Four Computers
December 11, 2007 5:06pm
This issue is central to the world of digital technology and human-machine interfaces.
Apple got it right, although many would argue they stuck to the single mouse button for too long!
Only techno-geeks enjoy having as many buttons and menus and options as possible , most people using computers and other tech just want to get the job done without diversions.
It would be great to see creativity software such as Photoshop, Illustrator , Logic etc. , come with more options for customizing the interface by removing unwanted functions and menus, or even slimming down the app via a more modular design, reducing unnecesary drain on both human mind and CPU resources.
This would also make it easier for new users to learn the software. Most people really are intimidated by huge nested menus containing unfamiliar functions & don't want to have to pore through manuals or endless geeky wiki pages to find out how to get things done, most of us just want to use the stuff and learn in practice.
When there is feature bloat, it's just tiring and tends to reduce productivity by offering too many options and potential tangents.
The art of working with digital creative technology is in learning to narrow down the almost endless possibilities , so that the software becomes useable, just as traditional creative tools , such as paintbrushes, canvas, musical instruments etc. , with their inherent limitations could be worked with, without the interference of the creativity-killing "too many possibilities!".
A flute makes a flute sound, and the player just gets on with playing it, whereas a modern software-based synthesizer can make such a huge variety of sounds that most people waste time and energy tweaking parameters that have no importance whatsoever on the music to be played and the tweaking in fact is detrimental to just getting down to playing some good music.
And of course we know that the best websites are simple and uncluttered, and don't tire the user with endless lists of links and buttons. Info-overload is something all those who work in the digital domain ought to take very seriously.
Barry Schwartz's comment on too many options actually causing paralysis of the decision-making process matched my thoughts on the matter exactly.

DRM may be seen as a big deal in some professional environments , but it's just a minor inconvenience in a world of mass, wholesale copying. Break 'em down , folks! There is really nothing these desperate penny-pinchers can do to stop people from copying and sharing. And part of the reason for this is because the penny-pinchers are stupid.
Anyway, remix, mashup and all that is already passé , everyone knows the best stuff is original artwork that does not need to directly steal or copy anything.

SUPPORT MUSICIANS SELLING THEIR MUSIC DIRECT!
The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!, produced by NIN’s Trent Reznor, is now available for download directly from Saul Williams’ website. You have the option of leaching the album for free , or getting a high quality DRM-free FLAC or 320kbps MP3 for only $5.
(would be nice to see boingboing cover this, its a wonderful thing indeedy)
THIS ALBUM ROCKS and I strongly advise you to pay the $5 and support the movement to break away from the stranglehold of Big Business over music. This is a brave move from Saul, following Radiohead’s recent online release on similar “get it for free or pay the artist” terms. This is the way forward.
FutureFeedForward: Google's upcoming body search
November 26, 2007 5:22pm
The future is already here:
http://www.alternet.org/healthwellness/62847/?page=1
Here's the scenario: After signing up online, you receive a kit in the mail. In your home, you provide a saliva sample in the supplied cup and ship it off to a lab. For a few hundred dollars, much of your genome is sequenced, and the company places it on a website. It's then linked to your complete medical history, also online.
At this point, the company says, you can learn about your predispositions to diseases, conditions for which you carry a recessive gene, and genealogical information. The website offers medical advice, along with advertisements for potentially useful products and services. You can even communicate with people with similar genetic characteristics, making "friends" and forming "groups."
That seems to be the plan of a Silicon Valley start-up, 23andMe, named for the 23 pairs of chromosomes that hold your genome. Google, Genentech, and venture capital firms have invested at least $10 million in 23andMe. Its founder recently married one of Google's founders. Ms. Dyson is also an investor and board member -- something that didn't come up during her interview.
I hope the idiotic promotion of google all over the internerds will stop about now.

Zeitgeist rocks ass, and some asses will be feeling the heat by now.... I am glad this movie was made and made ANONYMOUSLY.
Perhaps when what happens now in Baghdad starts happening a bit closer to home, some people will start lifting their heads out of their sandboxes of pseudo-intellectual grey-zone relativity which is really a mask for cowardice and complicity.
The Rockefellers are actually philanthorpists working for the good of all of us, for the advancement of civilisation. And that zeitgeist movie is obviously the paranoid rants of hash-smoking jew-hating conspiracy buffs . Watch Mars Attacks again , Mr Jay Kinney!

New Blade Runner: OMG Deckard is a [REDACTED]
November 24, 2007 4:44am
I've read the book twice, (and most of other of PKD's books) but don't recall any hints of Deckard being a replicant.
The teling of stories from an android's point of view was not something PKD particularly indulged in, he seemed to write more from a human's point of view, desperately enmeshed in a high-tech psychedelic nightmare.
I suppose the final scene with the artifical toad could be taken as a hint, but to me it felt like another one of PKD's unhappy endings, where the anti-hero finally gives in and buys into the illusion so as to maintain some semblance of sanity.

The milky , venomous fluid that the toad spits out, when its venom glands are massaged, is collected and dried , then smoked.
Smoking destroys the venom and releases 5-MeO-DMT and probably bufotenine (4-OH-DMT) and related compounds. There is little or no DMT involved .
5-MeO-DMT is quite different from DMT , and for most people lacks the characteristic visions and "entity contact" that DMT often triggers. The immediate and intense effects are gone in a few minutes , but the user can expect to be pretty high for about an hour.
Toad venom is probably a wonderful psychedelic/empathogenic gift from nature , ready to use with minimal preparation.
Small amounts of these substances have wonderful anti-depressant properties, without addictiveness or any side effects. Many of them occur naturally in the body and they can be easily metabolised - they can be considered non-toxic.
A dose of 5-MeO-DMT initially increases the heart rate. The only known dangers of 5-MeO-DMT overdoses are death by heart attack (extremely rare, in susceptible individuals) and demonic possession (rare but not unheard of & subsiding after some time, usually an hour) - but these are with the pure , synthesised substance.
Toad "venom" will be a lot more balanced and forgiving in its effect, as it is not a pure synthetic drug but a a mix of psychoactive and inert material. There are other (less potent) actives apart from 5MeO, which will moderate and enhance the effect.
It's probably one of the safest natural psychedelics around thanks to its short duration and very low toxicity (when smoked).
Has anybody got any???

Garett, to put it bluntly, i doubt anyone here gives a **** about judgments of other posters' character.
Yes, boingboing may be a sold-out meta-modern nightmare, where people dying appear next to lame Mickey Mouse fetishism, but that's the mix, and personally I'd like to see more serious topics such as this and less furries and geekiness pretty plz !

CS gas used in confined spaces can backfire on the cop, whereas a taser affects only the (usually unarmed) victim.
Someone wrote that these RCMP cops were offered honorary citizenship in the US?????
$£%**^$%***$@@££!@&$£%^@****£$%!
If this is true, it just speaks volumes of the adolescent fascist character of the US gov.
I'm sure the cops will get work with Blackwater, no problem. Killers of foreigners welcome !

This is the logic of what i call the internet communist fascists, commonly seen in Wikipedia biographies of living persons. The "public" is hungry, hungry for MORE, and it doesn't really care as long as it can get to watch. And anonymous cowards with hidden agendas or just personal vendettas can enjoy themselves causing some real grief to real people with real lives- qualities the internerds often lack.
They didn't "give the pictures to the public", and, how it works, is the internet is widely used as a machine to defame and hurt people by destroying their privacy- not the case here perhaps- but still something to be very aware of.

In a modern democracy that we may never get to see, all interactions between detained members of the public and the police should be filmed and made public.
This would be closer to the transperency politicians like to talk about. After all the police is here to protect the public, they are public servants , AREN'T THEY?
I hope the taser-happy cop gets maximum sentence for manslaughter, and tasers are classified as lethal weapons.
They needed a taser to restrain one man who could not even run away? If they were properly trained instead of being hired thugs more akin to Robocops than human beings, they would have easily handled him.

All this to me just further demonstrate the bankruptcy of public discourse- at least among us english speakers.
When you have people thinking that BUYING A CAR helps to save the planet, it just goes to show just how much of the human brain's activity has been shut down in American society and replaced by word viruses.

GHB is not particularly lethal by itself - it actually occurs naturally in the body in small amounts.
It does not produce nightmarish states. And that's one of the things people like about it.
Higher doses normally just make people fall heavily asleep for a few minutes up to a couple of hours- if late at night many people will just carry on sleeping but some abruptly wake up when the GHB's effect is gone- something to do with its metabolism.
Unfortunately GHB is quite addictive for some people . And illegal in some countries.
I don't think much is known about any possible negative side-effects ... none have been noted so far.
from Lycaeum.org:
1. Never combine with alcohol or other CNS depressants. This combination has been deadly to a number of people.
2. Seek medical attention for anyone who passes out from a GHB-type drug unless you can positively verify they are not under the influence of other drugs as described above.
3. Never use "liquid" GHB unless you know the concentration, as it varies according to preparation. An overdose can cause anything from unrousable sleep (most commonly) to death (at least 50 confirmed from GHB alone), and the steep dose-response curve exacerbates the problem.
4. Unlike cannabis and psychedelics, and like alcohol, nicotine, and heroin, Use of GHB-type drugs can be physically addictive. We have received multiple reports from individuals who have experienced severe withdrawal symptoms when trying to abstain from GHB use. These individuals reported using GHB several times a day (practically continuously) for extended periods of time.

No-one is evil to the core- just insanely angry (terrorist) or neurotically insecure and tragically retarded (freedom fighter).
The sooner American people can understand what the anger of "their enemies" is about the sooner we can hope to see the slaughter diminishing instead of escalating.
Amerika's enemies are not *your* enemies, unless you "choose" to swallow the war propaganda- the same one since the 50's , just different enemies.
If you join in the war, then you can expect to have lethal enemies. If you want to support biological and cultural genocide in the name of a very expensive and fake freedom, cheap gas and gadgets, you can expect to have enemies.
I wonder what it is that drives middle aged women with families to become suicide bombers?
This isn't a battle between good and evil, unless our philosophical background is Star Wars.
A real shame George Lucas sold out after THX1138, he could have done a lot of good work educating our generation.
Instead , he gave us metaphysical neurosis. Darth Vader as the ultimate fetish for an entire culture- more sex than Skywalker and Leia put together.

Netherlands bans magic mushrooms
October 13, 2007 12:40pm
Firstly, the photo is most likely Psilocybe azurescens, one of the most potent "magic mushrooms", or a related species...note the blue colour on the stem.
As a long-term user of natural psychedelics, i think they should never be sold out of shops, with or without "good info".
Mushrooms are NOT the fun product the Dutch head shop businessmen tried to promote. Of course they CAN be LOTS of fun, but that's not what they're for - as anyone who's had a "bad trip" will tell you. These are "shamanic" sacraments for initiation and "shamanic" work. This is serious stuff that should be kept underground- for many reasons. The commercial atittude of the Dutch when it comes to sacraments is disgraceful .
In this context, i agree with the Dutch government's decision . These things should not be openly available to anyone - and the age of the "consumer" (ugh) isn't the most important consideration.
But it's not such a big deal as serious mushroom users never bought them from these shops with their ridiculous prices and commercial approach. Indeed , there are ENDLESS AMOUNTS of them to be had every year for absolutely no money, if you know where to go!
Thanks to boingboing crew for opening up the site to public discussion!
