That was really impressive and well done. I'm still trying to process all that information.

Fascinating for sure.

Thanks Mark,

Did eBoost customer service rep call customer a faggot?

July 23, 2008 12:09pm

it seems like it's the same woman's voice. The exercise I used was to click on different points of slider of the mp3 file, then comparing them.
In my opinion, it is not a coincidence that you got the "nice phone call" then the nasty call in the same day.

Microsoft: Windows Vista as awesome as the Earth is spherical

July 22, 2008 9:49am

I think Microsoft doesn't know their facts.

fact:
Windows XP was somewhat stable
fact:
Vista was dumped by companies who went back to
Windows XP, because it wasn't stable at all.

Duke Nukem Trilogy is the best E3 trailer ever made

Can Microsoft save Vista?

July 14, 2008 9:04am

Windows XP was a stable OS. When Vista came out and businesses started going back to XP, most people realized it was a terrible OS. What's more annoying is that companies that sell computers try to ram down everybody's throat Vista. As a consumer I'd like to have my choice of OS and Hardware.

Just because of this I'm seriously consider buying a Mac and trying it for the first time.

Purported Bill Gates rant from 2003 slams Windows' flaws: "But that is just the start of the crap."

June 25, 2008 8:44am

well..the same kind of things keep happening after 5 years. So, I guess that sometimes even an e-mail from the top guy won't solve a whole mess of Windows.

It was interesting to read about his experience dealing with this, just like everybody else who uses windows.

Canadian Industry Minister lies about his Canadian DMCA on national radio, then hangs up

June 19, 2008 12:27pm

Wow...I wonder if the rest of the Conservative Party knows what the current Minister of Industry is doing. In my opinion, if there's a noticeable public discontent , and the opposition starts doing their job as well, this subject could trigger an election.

Also, think about this, in the interview the H. Minister of Industry HANGED UP on the CBC. Imagine how he would react if you, a common citizen , write to his office.

Talking points for Canadians speaking to their MPs about the Canadian DMCA

June 17, 2008 8:38am

In my opinion, the Bill C-61 was manufactured by the Entertainment Industry and "suggested " to the current Canadian government.Think of the Entertainment Industry as a unofficial state, which knows EXACTLY what's going on in the countries where it resides, and when its interests are in jeopardy, it will do something. The Industry knows what's going on in Canada.

Emotionally charged photo of woman being evicted from private property in Brazilian Amazon

June 6, 2008 3:16pm

#17 nailed it.

and I would add, that even if you try to search for the "objectivity" of the story, the back story of the image, it comes down to one thing:
YOU DO NOT TREAT PEOPLE LIKE THAT. WHO ARE YOU TO PUSH A MOTHER CARRYING A CHILD. WHAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO DO THAT.

There's civility, talking, conversing , diplomacy, agreements, you name it.

and even if you are still not convinced, try to imagine you're that child and that's your mother carrying you.

Restaurant lays off waitress who shaved head for cancer charity

June 6, 2008 8:33am

hair discrimination. Wow. IF the staff has to have a certain look, will the same principle applies to everybody in management and upper management?. Who came out with this rule?, some long hair person with no earrings?.

Anybody knows if this goes against the Charter of Rights?

By the way, those people lost my business, I wonder what other restaurant/stores they own.

Canadian DMCA will take $500/download from your kids' college fund

June 3, 2008 9:03am

this whole thing is impressive. So, if you download a song that's 99cents the fine could be up to $500 from the college kids fund?. We used to believe in education and a free country, so now instead of big brother , we have the big bully who's not even government and dictates how the government should act.

Fine, you want to go after "illegal " downloading, do it in a REASONABLE matter. There are lots of ways in how to achieve this.

if you were to take an external observer, this whole going after the college fund would make no sense. What are parents supposed to do?, TURN OFF the internet so that their kids don't download anything and their college fund remains untouched?.

the public is once again, put against the wall.

EMI: backing up music files online is illegal

April 23, 2008 8:27am

So, technically as consumers we don't have the right to ownership. We pay, consume, share, buy, support and according to them, backing up culture is illegal.

EMI is more like an annoying restrictive can't do or touch anything landlord than an organization related to the musical arts.

UK tries to sneak in redonkulous new anti-piracy legislation

February 12, 2008 11:19pm

There's also another problem with this. Look at it from a Kafkian perspective, which is a possibility. Whoever is in charge of monitoring what's illegal(let's say that you're doing social activism stuff and you start to annoy the people in charge ) can and will suspend your internet activity based on suspicion. Again, this is the key word, because it means they don't need a fact that what you downloaded was illegal, they only need to suspect you're doing it. So, if you oppose the current administration policies, therefore, the easiest way to silence you would be to cut you out from the internets. It is moronic that they did not target this law against pedophiles and things that everybody can view as illegal, so instead of going against a real criminal who's downloading child pornography, they rather target the person who downloaded the latest Harry Potter movie.

Yoko sues seeks to block trademark of "Lennon" - **UPDATE**

February 12, 2008 11:09pm

What's more important, her music or the name?. If I didn't know about this and heard about a musician called Lennon I would think of John Lennon first. If she wants to trademark Lennon, then, she would be fighting a collective imaginary concept, since the name Lennon is associated with John Lennon. If it took her a long time to build her career, then was it based on the name or on the artistic merit?.

This person has to be true to herself, and really answer: is it the name or the talent that matters?

UK tries to sneak in redonkulous new anti-piracy legislation

February 12, 2008 11:56am

the article refers to the suspicion, which means that even if the Internet Police is not sure, they can send you the warning.

If this is implemented in the U.K., the equivalent of the MPAA in the U.K, Recording Industries, will track the sales of music and movies after the is introduced (if it's introduced..). This could set a precedent for another industrialized countries to follow on the example and will have numbers (they will use it as a fact)to back it up.

"Hardly looks like torture to me." That's because you haven't even started to think how that feels. That comment denotes no attempt to even trying to understand why that's inhumane.

Those comments mirror plenty of ignorance.

Today is my 1st month of non smoking (I smoked for 13 years). I tried to quit innumerable times and felt horrible anytime I broke my promise of quiting.

In my opinion, any object that acts as smoking placebo will still make you feel under the impression that you're still a smoker.

I started by not having smoke breaks during work hours. Then I extended it by not smoking in my house.

After 8 months of doing this, I realized that I didn't think about smoke breaks or at home. I kept going like this, no smoking while drinking coffee, after having dinner, etc.

I only smoked when I drank with my friends. So I chose to quit and still go for beers with them, telling myself that I was finally regaining my health.

So, 1 month and I feel great and confident that I won't touch another cigarette again. :)

I recommend to read books on how to stop smoking (my favorite was Allen Carr's book).

I am sharing the method I used that is still working for me.

Good luck to all

No friends yet.
