What an asshole.

Perhaps we should punish hate crimes with the death penalty.

Artist Phoebe Washer, RIP

April 15, 2008 4:27pm

I'm on a Bay Area Police Scanner mailing list.
Someone on the list recorded video of the Coast Guard helicopter landing after her body was recovered on YouTube. No, this isn't a RickRoll, that would be in extremely poor taste.

What a coincidence. I've been ripping my DVD collection to MP4/H.264 and just ripped the first three Planet of the Apes movies over the weekend.

Nice images. I wonder though from a modeling standpoint. Why is the ball representing water translucent while the air one is not?

#6, ah thanks. I thought he was talking about writing DK for the 2600.

Insider's story about Atari

March 9, 2008 8:30pm

Thanks for the link, I really enjoyed reading that.

I was confused by his statement about the level background graphics being stamped once.

I thought with the Atari 2600 there was no frame buffer due to RAM limitations of the machine (due to high manufacturing cost at the time) . I thought the screen had to be drawn from scratch for each frame and synced with the vertical refresh rate of the television. So how would the background be "stamped" down once if there is no frame buffer?

Often when I see art like this it makes me wish I could draw. This was a really well done animation.

Anonymous vs. Scientology protest in LA today

February 11, 2008 2:04am

#36 : The point of Anonymous is that it is not centralized in any way shape, or form and thus operates purely on the whims of those who take part.

So like a flash mob. There's a plan, or perhaps some semblance of one, but no serious organization or coordination to speak of. As if the internet has taken the place of pheromones in an ant colony.

#36 : These protests are to prove a concept and to help define a class of person who believes in the power of information and the capacity for a cause to garner popularity without a figurehead.

I see what you are saying and think that is inevitable that society will bifurcate to some degree between the online and the offline citizens; interesting concept indeed. But why the Scientologists as the first target for assault?

Are they seen as an evil, yet easy target? I could identify several other, higher priority targets for citizen action than the CoS. Perhaps this is a proof of concept, or like the hive mind of the ant colony, it's just the current goal, however fuzzy, and unclear that goal may be.

Radio volunteer sets station on fire over playlist dispute

January 29, 2008 10:33pm

You know.... somehow this reminds me of Jack Thompson and the kids that do crazy shit and he blames it on video games.

Look, if they have a predisposition for erratic or irrational behavior they're going to crazy shit, regardless of the cause. Video games, music, books, comics books, pornography, etc. Don't blame the media, blame the psyche.

Ronald Jenkees; Hello YouTubes, have you heard my SICK beats?

September 5, 2007 12:54am

Wow! Thank you Xeni. I learned about Ronald from here, went to his YouTube channel and watched a few things. After 20 minutes I ordered 2 CDs. After doing so I sent Ronald an email. He replied, personally, within 20 minutes thanking me for the support. This is the music distribution model of the future -- connecting directly with the fans without the corporate B.S. His is the first (physical) CD I've bought in over 5 years (physical that is. I've bought tune via iTunes in that time).
