Teens desecrate grave to make pot pipe from skull

May 9, 2008 2:24pm

From Reverend Horton Heat:

"Yeah, it's cool that you live in a shack
And it's cool that you're hooked on smack
Yeah, you used to be in a band
You're the coolest guy to all your fans

Now you're livin' on the edge your livin'
On the edge you're livin',
Livin' on the edge of Houston

Yeah, it's cool everybody knows
That you're in and out of jail
You're a tortured artistic soul
But your daddy always pays your bail

Now you're livin' on the edge your livin'
On the edge you're livin',
Livin' on the edge of Houston

Yeah, you can't afford a car
All your friends like your real nice life
And it's cool everybody knows
That you're sneaking into all the shows

Now you're livin' on the edge your livin'
On the edge you're livin',
Livin' on the edge of Houston
Livin' on the edge of Houston!
Livin' on the edge of Houston!"

Inflatable tube man dances to Cream's "Glad"

April 25, 2008 2:20pm

Since I'm the video maker, let me say a few things:

1. If you're in need, I'm for hire.
2. The face was not deliberately avoided, but the angle I shot from was the only one where I could get no land and only sky - the effect to me is one of an invertebrate, such as a sea cucumber or anemone.
3. I worked to get the timing to match very diligently, but in three instances during editing I didn't have to do anything. I used to use Mozart a lot in my earlier commercial productions, and stuff just matched I think this because:
a)we expect it
b)the brain constructs it
4. Takuan, you made me laugh.
5. Yes I am for hire - liberate me and I will reward you with compelling semiotics that move stand still and somewhere in between.
6. I shoulda said all this earlier but I was out of town - new Tijuana pix at http://glyphjockey.com
7. THANKS FOR ALL THE KIND WORDS

Dance number from Pop Gear, 1965 Brit Invasion movie

Heer's the original post I did to accompany it when I first uploaded it. Review of the film plus multiple clips. There's an assload (get it?!) of clips from this movie on line used in the review, but when I saw there was no gold pants dance, well, nature took its course.

Africa: building bikes from bamboo

February 9, 2008 8:20am

"Sadly, the design used in most of Africa has not changed for the last 40 years to take into account the different ways in which the bicycle is used"
...seems a little off to me; there are several charitable organizations in the US and UK that take used bikes and ship them to Africa. Presumably they are a later-than-40-year-old design. In addition, Africa is a continent. There are ports ringing it, and trade with "the outside world" still happens, despite us lumping remote Uganda in with Dakar.
Any design help is a plus though - cool bikes.

Taxonomy of regional pizza styles

January 25, 2008 7:53am

Sandor's Pizza - rotating glass oven and the cheese is in a spiral + heavy use of corn meal in the crust. Always toothsome.

There used to be two:
One that was in a hole in the staircase wall of the Margaret-Orthodox EL stop in Philly - you couldn't not buy it - the smell took over reason, and Gravina's in Absecon, NJ where he deliberately cut the slices irregularly so as to quash arguments about who got the biggest slice. Both gone. Eat it while you can, people.

UK party leader hires Brian Eno as youth adviser

December 19, 2007 11:26am

I can see it now: "Children, team up in pairs. Right side of the room, each of you has a set of cards that will define actionable behaviors as regards politics in the UK today. Arrange the cards upside down so that they are readable by your counterparts, and then try to formulate a new ways of running the UK government by attempting to gain an understanding of your counterparts interpretation of the cards actionable item. Be sure to record each observation and activity, no matter what level the minutiae. Then we will ritually burn the notes in an abandoned Sheffield steel processing plant while recording the whole thing from differing simultaneous angles using 476 video cameras, a number I took three weeks to come up with. So, lets get started, and why don't we rock out with a little something I call "Plateaux of Mirrors" while we ....create a new world?
