Paramount silencing portions of Indiana Jones in theaters?

May 29, 2008 5:25am

I went to see the movie on the opening weekend with my girlfriend at a cinema in Brooklyn, NY. At the initial Paramount logo (up to about the scene where the teenagers' car runs over the prarie dog's burrow), one scene during the chase through the Amazon, and when Marion ran the motorboat/car into the river, the sound cut off for about 5-10 seconds. A few people in the theatre started complaining about that, and everyone initially thought that it was faulty equipment that was to blame.

Now to read this, I am disgusted. People who paid money to enjoy a movie instead have to deal with this bullshit from the movie companies themselves. And what for? To "deter" pirates? The movie companies are going too far with this already, and I refuse to give them any more of my money if this is how people who simply want fair use are going to be treated.

Pre-Revolutionary Cuban advertisement art

Back before Castro came in to power, Cuba was a beautiful nation, ahead of the times in many ways (e.g. Cuba was the second nation in the world to introduce color TV). The 1950s were the peak of culture, until the Embargo and Castro's coming to power.

Cuba today appears to be frozen in time, but hopefully things will turn around there and Cuba will be restored to its glory.

Rockbox open jukebox firmware looking for student hackers to "spend Google's money"

March 27, 2008 8:59am

Rockbox has been one of the best damn open source projects I've ever followed. I for one welcome our new Swedish overlords. :)

The sheer amount of stuff you can do with Rockbox is simply mind boggling. On-the-fly playlists, games, a huge list of supported codecs (nearly 20 and counting!), and MPEG-2 video playback retrofitted onto players that don't even PLAY video on their OF are just icing on a sweet, sweet cake. I now refuse to buy any DAP unless I get to see the Rockbox logo splash across its screen.
