If computers were cars, which they are not

If this thing is worthy of posting, Boing Boing is really going down hill.

Batman-style beer belt doesn't look marathon-ready

August 5, 2008 5:23pm

RE: #3

There are only a few reasons to carry a lighter:

You smoke - cancerous and lame!
You are a 14 year old who thinks it's cool to play with a zippo - juvenile and lame!
You are an arsonist - illegal and lame!

Adaptive Path and Mozilla: future of Web-browsing video

August 5, 2008 5:07pm

I'm looking forward to the repost of this on boing boing in 10 years. Nearly everything in this video will be laughably non existent or it will have completely missed the mark.

I can just see it now:

What the Cubs lose? They've taken the world series 3 years in a row.

Look how small that screen is.

Where the heck is the network switching notification? "Now leaving AT&T approved webspace - your bandwidth is no longer optimized"

Where's the tablet screen? (think Nintendo DS on a grand scale)

They thought we'd still have rainfall?

Bad-ass tape dispenser

Sixty quid for a tap dispenser!?!?!? I really question Design Within Reaches' name when they sell stuff like this. I know steel prices are through the roof right now, but that thing can't cost more than $5 to make.

It's As much as people like to bad mouth Ikea, they really do offer design within reach. Yes, they have a lot of stuff that it total crap, but they do offer a lot of solidly build good furniture.

What?!!?!? No built in bottle opener!!!! Typical of urban outfitters - they pretend to be hip and indy, but when it comes to beer they show their true mass produced twist off cap colors.

ResQtec Ram makes mincemeat out of cars

August 3, 2008 10:07pm

I'm going to have to agree with Takuan - this thing is just a glorified bottle jack with a long stroke.

The major improvements over a bottle jack come in the weight department - should be lighter due to the aluminum construction, and in the easy of use department - an electric motor and pump assembly probably powers the hydraulics rather than a simple hand pump.

I wonder how useful it would be in medium severity accidents - those where the frame gets bent to the point door don't open, but not bent enough to use up all the crumple zone. The distance between the A and B pillar may exceed the rams reach length of 31" in the afore mentioned situation.

Get involved in production of community-made SF movie: Artemis Eternal

April 29, 2008 8:58pm

If Shane Carruth can put together the fantastic Primer (http://primermovie.com/) for $7,000, and Panic Struct Productions (http://panicstruckpro.com/revelations/) can put together a visually impressive star wars spin off for less than 10 Gs, why the heck does this project need $100,000 dollars.

If this film is going to be so revolutionary, providing your potential investors with a honest treatment shouldn't sour your box office receipts.

The only reason to produce a short and release it at a film festivals is to get noticed and hopefully get a big studio to invest in your future projects.

Also in her FAQ she says she's not willing to go Creative Commons. If you want the community at large to pony up for your project you should at the very least reciprocate.
