Happy 107th birthday to my grandmother!

Happy Birthday to your grandma indeed! I hope she is still well and with it. Great genes you have.
My mother in law is 90 (spring chicken) and has a sister who is 96, so I'm hoping my MIL will at least make it to 100 so that when we get around to having kids, she will get to meet them and vice/versa. (I'm only 41.)
Similar to the previous comment: We went to visit her a few weeks ago (she lives alone in Texas but she's moving to Cali into assisted living near us) and she asked if we took vitamins. We said yes. She said, from her nursing home bed recovering from a bad infection -- "I took vitamins and calcium for years. Look where it got me." We stared at her then said in unison "YOU'RE 90!!"
She was still bowling in January and only stopped when she got sick. She can still bowl over 200 on a good day.
How people around the world count money -- video

Whether all this is "true" or not, I was surprised, as an american, to see that the way I learned to count cash in a stack is actually the asian method. But then I learned it from my mom and she learned it from the bank she worked in as a teller, in Hawaii, with mostly asian managers and co-workers.
Interesting shift.

Every time I see photos of that Nemo pool I feel like its a dream world and just can't be real. I can't wait to go there someday.

Home movie of an automat

JHM -- I'm not sure if the movie you are thinking of is "That Touch of Mink" with Doris Day and Cary Grant. Doris' best friend and roommate in the film, played by Audrey Meadows, works in the automat. Every time I see it, I want to go there.
Recently, I went to Clifton's Cafeteria in downtown Los Angeles. It's not an automat, but an old old school cafeteria from 1931. My friend and I discussed how there used to be cafeterias on every block and automats on every other block and how we would love to go to an automat. Where is that time machine when you really want it?

Depending on my level of panic/need for control of my life, I will start a list with "Make a list."
I love this video.

How could they have foreseen toaster bacon, but not Batter Blaster? The two would work so well together.
As someone said re: Batter Blaster:
This is what science is FOR!
Amen.
Video of Chuck Jones drawing Wile E. Coyote
January 18, 2008 11:08am
10 years ago I was lucky to work at a company who brought Mr. Jones in for a talk about animation. He talked and drew at the same time and it was mind blowing to see the creator of all these childhood memories make those characters come to life oh so casually as he stood at an overhead projector. Pepe Le Pew? Woosh woosh woosh, there he was. Roadrunner? whish whish wish, done. And on and on. It was awesome.

Ridiculous indeed.
While reading the post and the comments, I reached to my pencil cup, pulled out the two sharpies I have in there and gave them a good long sniff. The green was not as strong as the blue, FYI.
My favorite school room smell was the smell of brand new textbooks (in the 70s.) I can't find that smell in books anymore...
