'W-Cut' fasteners are drill and screw in one

April 22, 2008 9:37am

How is this different from yer basic self tapping screw wot's been readily available from countless manufacturers for decades?

Jake von Slatt's video response to steampunk monologue

April 7, 2008 8:21am

So if the picturesque and overly complicated oak and brasswork mechanisms are in fact controlled behind the scenes by an array of microprocessors and countless lines of lovingly tweaked code, am I OK, or am I contravenin' one or more of the blog commenters sekrit rules of artsy rightness being alluded to in this discussion?

Really, you guys need to get the rules and regs we're supposed to be following published and properly distributed.

Heya, Jake... join me for a walnut martini at the Faire this year?

Percussion Table Makes for Musical Chairs

I wanna see/hear a classroom full of similarly equipped desks, arranged gamelan style.

Useless beautiful machine scrambles blog posts

From the form factor, it's much closer to those cute little Blorg things than a gin-you-wine Bloog. Just add a mic and some speech-to-text code and turn it into a Blocoder.

Yeah, I'm done... but I want points when the guy does just that and starts gettin' awards at gallery shows.

...except that it doesn't really resemble the look of a '60s Moog.

Nice attempt at a namedrop though.

Now, for 20 points, is it pronounced blewg, or blogue?

Electroplankton inventor's new musical instrument

December 28, 2007 1:20pm

No midi, fixed soundbank, black box algos, too expensive to accommodate a large scale bending project. Nice try, but it's an overpriced shadow of what it could have been.

Shame, really. Good thing we have monomes.

HOWTO Wrap presents

December 24, 2007 9:37am

Excellent point concerning 3M Super77. While it may be the adhesive of choice for laminates, and glueing small, hairless companion animals to the wall, it's definitely overkill for wrapping.

Crafters aerosol stencil adhesive, on the other hand, is the absolute *business* for wrapping stuff. The stick factor is higher than post-it stickum, and lower than rubber cement, and it allows for lotsa finicky repositioning without leaving any nasty residue.

Zip Tie Ring by Natalia Gomensoro

That's not the right way to thread a zip tie.

Vancouver 2010 Olympic mascots include a Sasquatch

November 30, 2007 7:24am

3 mascots, 3 x the merch sales. Anyone who's followed the 'nucks countless uniform redesigns will feel a familiar tug on their wallet. In Van, sports is all about the merch. It's the only way to make a profit when the rest of the endeavour is invariably substandard, I suppose.

I'm actually surprised there wasn't a little RAVi character included, as the official rapid transit mascot.

(Full disclosure: I live in Vancouver, and it is in no way similar to the tourism advertising)
