UK database blacklist of "suspicious" store clerks includes people never charged or convicted

May 8, 2008 10:20am

What the hell is happening to Britain? Can the loss of American civil liberties be far behind?

Disneyland bans pictures in its parking lots

April 22, 2008 8:12am

I still don't see how it's legal to stop someone from photographing anything. It's not the act of taking the picture that's objectionable, it's the sale or display of.

I wish the ACLU or someone would get involved. It's not the most heinous act ever perpetrated in the name of totalitarianism but it is another step up the ladder.

Middlesbrough cops, goons and clerks grab and detain photographer for shooting on a public street

April 22, 2008 8:06am

I hope the guy does file charges just so this event is on record rather than just becoming another useless anecdote.

This whole "private property" thing is total bullshit - you're merely renting you have no right to claim ownership of the land. I say if people aren't living in it and the government isn't producing top secret ray guns on it it's fair game.

I agree #20. Someone should start collecting areas famous for being no-photography zones. I'd be happy to photo "the Alley" (try chasing me in those platform boots, ya nose-ringed spaz) or wherever. Fuckem.

Plantable greeting-cards embedded with seeds

April 10, 2008 8:48am

@rachy That's an interesting thought. Do seed packagers and distributors generally take this kind of thing into consideration when sending seeds to nationwide chains like Home Depot? Or are we just too far gone to even think about all this at this point?

I'm thinking Piranhas in Lake Michigan might be a fun thing BTW.

Craiglist stoner thanks pizza guy for best pizza ever

April 6, 2008 2:17pm

Anyone think that maybe some terrorists might be using coded messages on Craig's List to plan something nefarious.

Stoned = kill everyone
Pizza = bombs
Sun Dried Tomatoes = Some predetermined date like a Wednesday
Laughing Uncontrollably = Receive our reward in heaven

So obvious.

Now I just need to crack the anchovy code.

Good Comment: Mott, on child abduction and trafficking in Guatemala

March 27, 2008 10:22pm

@Antinous: This reads like a piece of internet garbage of the "it could happen to you" variety. All it is missing is the "forward this to 20 people in the next 5 minutes or you or someone you love will be abducted (and have lots of bad luck)."

I don't think by questioning the validity of this flowery anecdote anyone is taking away anything from terrible nature of human trafficking. If anything, this story minimizes the reality.

"what's the motive for this commenter to tell this lie?" Sometimes the benefit is simply a psychological payoff. I mean c'mon, they say "For this could have happened to you." right in the first paragraph...who talks like that?

Not saying it's not real but if it smells like a duck...it's most likely a duck.

Amanda Visell's new limited toy

March 26, 2008 3:31pm

Hmmm? Sold out already? Thanks, cultured fools.

Starbucks' formula has changed, let us count the (three) ways.

March 3, 2008 4:06pm

Mom and Pop's get driven out of business...by what? Low prices? Awesome coffee? People who'd rather go to Starbucks?

I hate to say it but it's OK with me - if Mom and Pop make a shit cup of coffee then I'll cross the street and buy someone else's - if it is in my opinion a bit less shit. For the money that is.

It's got to be hard to count out change for a 10 billionZ note.

Giant monsters over Tokyo photoset

February 25, 2008 7:22am

Weird. I think the men in rubber monster suits set amongst miniature buildings actually look more realistic.

World's most complete recorded music collection on eBay

If I can just get about 3,000 people to go in on this with me...

Homemade Obama "hope beacon" with LED light thingies

February 6, 2008 9:01pm

If that's it "doing its thing"...

It's kind of just a translucent material with a few lights behind it, no?

Someone tell me what's interesting about it, I'm missing something.

Pimpstar animated wheels -- "a huge leap forward in the evolution of the wheel"

Didn't Chevy Chase use these in Nat'l Lampoon's Vacation 2021?

Boing Boing hoodies 24% off: GAMA-GO 24 hour sale!

December 5, 2007 9:21am

I smell a moratorium coming. "It's too much, wah wah"...for you maybe!

I bought one. I love it. I'll wear it and let my baby spit up on it, wash it and wear it some more - like any other sweatshirt.

It was expensive...really expensive, but I bought one anyway. And I'm poor. Retarded poor. But that's what I did with my money anyway. So please don't buy one for yourself. Go buy something really important. Who cares.

I am pissed off that they lowered the price though.

So, go key an SUV or something. Elitist hipster nubs. ;)
