The Spirit of St. Louis World War II iPod dock

June 4, 2008 4:06pm

I had one of these a few years ago, except it was a CD/cassette/AM/FM without the Ipod dock. It was gorgeous. It fell from a table just above knee-high and broke into about 75 pieces. I miss it terribly, and I wish it had been a little sturdier.

This is what a broken Amazon Kindle looks like

I did the same thing with (2) digital cameras. At different times, of course. So I feel your pain. Except for the fact that you got your first one for free, and your second one for free. So that makes you one lucky bastard.

Ford dealership uses bigoted radio ads to sell cars

May 26, 2008 6:12am

I'm pretty sure that "believing in God" and "Being a Christian" are not necessarily the same thing. Also, I'm not sure how this is supposed to sell cars. But I guess they can say whatever they want.

Next rash of Dell Inspirons surprisingly svelte

May 8, 2008 4:11pm

That reminds me of the Inspiron I bought. And the battery went bad after a year. And when I wiped the hard drive and reloaded the drivers that came with the computer, they didn't work. So now I have a wide screen that thinks it's not, and my sound card doesn't work. Yep. Not getting another Dell, no matter WHAT it looks like.

Bike wheel consisting of spokes with shoes on the end

May 4, 2008 6:56am

If you saw it a long time ago, and this is boring and out of date, it means you are much more current, hip, and in touch with boingboing.

So put it on your _own_ blog.

Oh, yeah, you probably don't have your own blog, because you saw this one thing a long time ago, but everything else you like, you found on boingboing.

Bike wheel consisting of spokes with shoes on the end

May 3, 2008 7:16pm

Thank you, editors of boingboing, for providing such a variety of things to look at, and such a high volume to keep me coming back at least daily, and yet, not so much volume that I am overwhelmed. There is so much variety here, that I don't HAVE to like every single thing. It's a certainty that I will find something I like to look at every day.

Don't worry, the next comment I make will be elitist and insulting.

You left out the part where all the cretins at the genius bar use Crisco to style their hair.

Mickey Mouse tries different ways to commit suicide

April 20, 2008 6:46pm

I love how he's plugging his finger in his ear, because he doesn't want to damage his hearing while he blows his brains all over the apartment. Mickey is too funny!

I'm taking the time out of my day to criticize things, too!

Cross-stitch inspired by Alfred Bester's DEMOLISHED MAN

I LOVE the contrast between the "statement of protest and rebellion" and the "most harmless and traditional of past-times."

But that's just me. I love contrast. I guess I could see how some people don't like contrast or irony, and would only appreciate statements of protest and rebellion when spelled out in spraypaint or broken glass. But then, if I was doing a project like this, those people would not be my target audience. I don't want art that tastes like pureed steamed carrot baby food. Give me art that tastes like my own blood and teeth, or dirt and hate, or bananas and burnt tires. Or protest and rebellion.

I love it, thank you for sharing.

Gogol Bordello's punk gypsy

I saw these guys at the Black Cat in DC a few years back. By far, the loudest, most insane concert experience I have ever attended.

WorkTunes Hearing Protection Muffs

March 12, 2008 7:01pm

From my experience, the MP3 jack on these types of things bypass the amp and run to the speakers, but you still have to turn the power on. So when you listen to your MP3 player, and bump the volume, it blasts you with FM.

Also, being a metalworker, I use my own hearing protection (modified with speakers inside) and I love it. I don't try to turn it up louder than the occasional power tool or hammer blow. I turn it up loud enough to hear when there are no tools running, and just deal with not hearing anything when I'm using a grinder.

Yes, get a vintage around town guide. And if you need gigantic chrome headphones, or a front-loading turntable... Give me a shout. Or you can come over and feast your eyes on a government surplus filing cabinet full of old dental tools, fake teeth, and TSA-confiscata.

Lots to look at here in Austin.

Crackery Tableware "Celebrates Imperfections"

March 7, 2008 5:57am

This is a great new spin on an old Japanese tradition of filling the cracks in pottery with gold, as they believe the IMperfection is the source of the beauty. My girlfriend loves the new spin, and I love the old tradition.

Vinegar as wonder substance

November 12, 2007 5:04pm

"Get rid of rust on spigots, tools, or bolts by soaking them."

WRONG! As a metalworker and artist, I can tell you that I use vinegar soak to MAKE THINGS RUST! When I want a piece of steel to rust quickly, I soak it in vinegar for a half hour. Or bleach for 15 minutes.
