Craftsman's $8600 everything toolkit
May 8, 2008 11:44am
It depends on what you use the tools for. If my career was in construction by all means would I get the best stuff, but for my occasional use I have been very happy with this brand.
Craftsman's $8600 everything toolkit
May 7, 2008 4:08pm
I so wish I could afford to buy this as a Christmas gift for a friend or relative. Watching the shear bewilderment of the individual receiving the gift and then trying to figure out where to store the tools would be a riot.

Cities of the Underworld showed this on their Paris episode. Absolutely amazing.
Droog's Do Hit Chair, complete with sledgehammer

I was sold until I realized that it didn't come with ear plugs.
What a rip off.
Gasoline to cost $10 a gallon in US soon?
April 28, 2008 12:46pm
Economics 101:
Increase in demand = Increase in price.
Decrease in demand = Decrease in price.
As long as my neighbor and many others insist on using their Ford F-350s as commuter vehicles, which gets about 10 miles per gallon, demand will continue to increase and we will continue to see higher prices.
I think it is lost on many that those who own the big vehicles are driving up prices for everyone else.
Experiment: 96% of passers-by ignore famous artist's street painting

I think all it means is that he's not very famous.
Citizen issues parking ticket to cop
April 23, 2008 1:27pm
Although I appreciate the fact that cops should obey the laws just like everyone else, this is carrying it too far. I don't think Mr. Bryant has the public's best interest in mind. I think he simply saw an opportunity to stick it to the man and took it.
If a cop had given someone a $540 ticket for parking illegally many of us would be writing about how cops should have better things to do than harass people over petty matters.
Clock sculpture with more than 150 analog hands spells out the name of the hour

Clothing designed to fight back against intentionally uncomfortable furniture
April 17, 2008 3:49pm
I think it's funny. Can a cop bust someone for sleeping on a bench that was designed for no sleeping? Is the bench now false advertising? Was the city duped? Who paid for these benches and who approved their purchase?
This outfit could single handedly cause chaos!
"The accused was cited for sleeping on a no-sleep bench by wearing a blue, foamy, coverall, sort of thing..."
"Case dismissed."
It's like the user got past the bench's EULA!
I'm lacking sleep. Somebody please stop me...

8-year-old boy suspended for sniffing marker
April 15, 2008 8:03am
When I was a kid, they made markers that you were supposed to smell. Red smelled like strawberry, yellow like banana, orange like orange, etc.
I think they were called "Magic Marker Liquid Banana."
Weird photoshop blunders

I wonder if there is someone standing behind her. To the right of her belt is some fabric that looks like the torso of the second person, with their right arm extended behind the subject's head.
If the "third" arm was real, that would be an odd position to stand.
Bike racers line up for bio-break
March 26, 2008 11:53am
So if I do my duty off of a bridge I get cuffed and stuffed by the authorities. However, if I put on Technicolor tights, a helmet and have a bike nearby with 20 others dressed the same way, it's all good.
Got it.

Universe's most powerful blast ever seen witnessed this week

I saw that Myth Busters episode, which I thought was really good. They did nuke cockroaches but did not conduct tests on the super Russian cockroaches bred in space.

Survival kit in a sardine tin

Here's a wacky idea:
Put the same stuff in a ziploc bag, except use strike anywhere waterproof matches because the cardboard variety are a joke, especially after you wear off the striker.
Forget the tea bag, forget the salt because if you actually need it to survive you're screwed anyway, include a real knife, and the "energy nugget" looks like a bullion cube which will just make you thirsty.
Guy overdubs his atrocious guitar playing over Clapton concert
March 17, 2008 1:38pm
That was a riot!
The overdub sounds like good guitar playing, technique-wise. I can just see some concert goers applauding if a guitar hero played that way. "It's Clapton! It must be good!"
The music reminded me of modern jazz.
Which giant corporation owns your favorite tiny organic food brand?
March 14, 2008 3:38pm
I can understand why some people would be bothered that these big conglomerates are selling organic foods. With the competition to get new foods on the market and getting them on desirable shelf space in stores, a product often needs significant financial backing, hence big corporations.
All the water and air on earth gathered into spheres and compared to the Earth

Arizona students stage hug-a-thon to protest 2-second hug rule detentions
March 6, 2008 8:44pm
If I ever get called in because my son was fighting my first question will be "who threw the first punch?" If my son did it, he's really busted. If the other kid threw the first punch and he wasn't being bullied I will proceed to file assault charges unless the school backs down on punishing my son.
What are the laws in each US state on driving while cellphoning?
March 6, 2008 8:37pm
When a driver has a conversation with a passenger, the passenger picks up on non-verbal queues indicating that the conversation is getting too distracting, as well as the passenger is able to see the road conditions.
When a driver talks on a cell phone the person on the other end can't see the road and is not picking up on the non-verbal queues. The conversation gets too engrossing and the driver starts to drive poorly.
http://unews.utah.edu/p/?r=062206-1
I gave up talking on the phone while driving because I don't want to be the evil poster driver that will eventually take out a school bus and kill a bunch of kids. I even gave my kid permission to harass me if I use the phone.

@Charlie_Lesoine
I agree with what you are saying. These researches need to come up with different terminology for what they are studying. Otherwise they will run into the never ending frustration of explaining to people that they cannot send on object from point A to point B.

Why not take it a step further? Since government, in theory should exist for the benefit of the people, I would argue that all purchases made by the government (goods, services and labor)should be domestic. I'm not anti-foreign product but if the US government is supposed to be by and for the people, than support those people, and the economy, by always purchasing domestic services when possible.
MythBusters tackles "plane on a conveyor belt problem"
January 28, 2008 1:12pm
Pushing against air is an oversimplification. Propeller driven planes are pushing against the air. Jet engines achieve thrust because the exhaust is pushing against the engine so the presence air is not relevant unless it is required for combustion.
MythBusters tackles "plane on a conveyor belt problem"
January 28, 2008 12:58pm
Unlike a car, where the wheels push against the pavement, an airplane engines push against the air. The wheels are irrelevant to an airplane's forward motion and are present to reduce friction between the plane and the runway.
When running on an exercise treadmill we stay stationary relative to the room because the force generated by our feet pushing against the treadmill belt is not transfered to the floor. If we were to strap on a Buzz Lightyear rocket pack while running on the treadmill and light it off, it wouldn't matter how fast the treadmill was going because the rocket would be pushing against the air and away we would go.
Simply put, the wheels on an airplane act as a lubricant between the plane and the runway. If the treadmill did counteract the forward motion of an airplane than it would be impossible to take off on an icy runway.
Man claims Blue Man Group forced a camera down his throat
January 28, 2008 10:38am
If someone tried to force a camera down my gullet without my consent I guarantee it would take at least 5 men to hold me down. One for each limb and one to hold my head steady while the sixth operates the camera.
I have a hard time believing that three blue men would be able to force this on him.
He probably bit his tongue while eating Cheetos and wants someone to pay.
Grandmother arrested at McDonald's drive-thru for not pulling car forward
January 24, 2008 2:35pm
The cops were looking for the Hamburglar when grandma impeded an investigation ordered by Mayor McCheese himself.
According to unidentified sources, the Hamburglar mugged Grimace and pushed him over. Grimice, who has terrible balance, landed on Mayor McCheese (I've fallen and I can't get up). His honor is outraged and wants justice.

Honor student suspended for bringing multitool to school
January 22, 2008 3:23pm
Perhaps if it wasn't for the tweezers on the multitool than the kid may have been let off with a warning.
Those tweezers attachments can be deadly.
And don't get me started on lanyard attachments...
Super cockroaches conceived in space

What would it be like to be the last person on Earth?
January 4, 2008 3:44pm
@ Takuan-
As a geology student I got a tour of the Hanford reservation in the mid 90s. As best as I can remember the concern was that the waste is moving toward the Columbia River via ground water. I don't recall any concern about a big kablooie sort of thing that would cause mass ruination.

@G.Park-
When I stated "our liberties" I meant everyone's liberties (Patriot Act, Security Checkpoints, DRM, etc.)
Regardless, you are splitting hairs and reading way to much into my comments. In a nutshell when it becomes ok to devalue someone because of their faith, whether Muslim, Christian, Wiccan or Pastafarian, than we are on a slippery slope to losing our liberties. If it is ok to devalue followers of one faith than it becomes increasingly easy to devalue those of other faiths. This sort of thing has happened too often in history and nothing good comes of it.

@Crunchbird-
Fair enough and I appreciate your comments. I agree that if you don't like his views then you should take your vote elsewhere.
@G.Park
A common thread on these boards is that our liberties are being eroded by various laws, corporate behaviors, etc. Are Christians really free to practice their religion when it is ok to refer to their beliefs as "millennia-old superstitions" or would it be ok if this particular liberty just went away?
Cross in Huckabee's new TV ad?
December 19, 2007 12:54pm
@G.Park -
Nope. I'm not kidding and I don't recall stating anything about Christians being persecuted in America because they are criticized.
It's too bad his belief in Christianity is used as a criteria to determine his, and his supporter's, character or mental fitness.
And a huge swath of the American public immersed in this funademtalist lunacy will buy that. Now THAT is what I call mental Illness.
