Review of Jack Kirby's OMAC

June 19, 2008 11:16pm

OMG! This is it!

I read this comic back in 74-75, when I was a little kid. It disturbed me, and I've never been able to get the image of the woman being led to be turned into a dissasembled suicide-bomber sex-robot out of my head.

Over the decades since, I've tried to figure out what comic book it was that I read back then, but have never been able to. Now I have!

Thanks Mark!

Wow, this is awesome! Straight sex, gay sex, masturbation, vaginal sex, oral sex, anal sex, anonymous sex, glory holes, bestiality... even crabs! Talk about being ahead of its time!

1979 Disco Handbook on Scribd

> Published by Scholastic.

Unreal. Hence the absence of "blow" (all meanings) in the glossary.

And my, how gay the "looks" are (pp. 31-35): the soldier... the leatherman... who did you think you were kidding...? Surely not the Village People!

1979 Disco Handbook on Scribd

(Whoah, Scribd is cool!)

I love the the irony of this quote from Ch. 1:

By now you've heard the word and felt the fever... the word is always the same -- disco -- and the fever is spreading."

By the time this book was published, 1979, disco was already in its death throes.

Chapter 2 has some great lingo:
"
BEAT - The constant, throbbing engine which keeps the disco in perpetual motion

CONVERSATION - Outmoded preoccupation

VIBES - Those little particles of kinetic energy that bounce from person to person at the disco.

Sunset on Mars

Tunisia. 1975. Star Wars was filming Tatooine scenes. I was there.

I saw this image today and had a sense of deja vu. It totally evokes the image of Luke Skywalker with the two suns.

IRC Game "Rule 34 Challenge" Starts in 60 Minutes on FreeNode #boingboing

Wow. After watching that competition, and some of the images that are now in my brain as a result, I REALLY need a Unicorn Chaser!

Second Life on an Apple ][+

April 14, 2008 1:12pm

I was going to comment on that, also. Apple wrote the model name "Apple //c" with two slashes and a c, as opposed to the ][ brackets of earlier models.

I had a //c in High School. I loved that old machine, and was using it to Telnet, FTP and Gopher surf the Internet at 1200 baud as late as 1990.

Free download: Alan Moore's Swamp Thing, Issue #21

January 30, 2008 2:47pm

YEAH!

These are the Swamp Things I got hooked on back in High School, when they were new on the shelves. Fell in love with Alan Moore's work then, looking forward to the anthology!

Is Comcast really blocking P2P? EFF + SF Weekly conclude: yeah.

January 23, 2008 6:25pm

I left Comcast last month over this very issue.

Rosie the Riveter: one of many finds in that LoC Flickr set

January 19, 2008 1:10pm

Please understand, when I said "turn the icon on it's head," all I meant is that, for 60+ years, the iconic image of Rosie the Riveter has always been white.

This image shows it wasn't always so.

But then, I'm an iconoclast. I love seeing "symbols" turned upside down. And Rosie was/is a symbol.

Colormation Screen Test

Does anyone else find it interesting that, for a cartoon called "colormation," there's no COLOR in it? :-)
