Week in the Woods: Final checklist; Leaving tomorrow!

April 21, 2008 1:38pm

This is a great, no matter how it turns out, it'll make interesting reading.

Funny/Creepy old comic book ad

April 20, 2008 11:30am

I'm trying to imagine what the talking tape was. My guess, it was embedded with bumps like a phonograph record, and the balloon acted as a resonator.

Celebrity robot tee

April 18, 2008 9:29am

The artist did a magnificent job of rendering all of the robotic icons I am familiar with, except Bender. Bender's silhouette is more evil, menacing and likely to cut you than the lovable if out-of-control rascal I know. I wonder if the artist self-censored the obvious cigar or beer bottle to keep it rated G? Or maybe that's not Bender at all.

Ted Talks: Johnny Lee's Wii remote hacks

April 11, 2008 4:27pm

Makes me wanna Wii!

Flickr adds video-sharing

April 11, 2008 4:34am

The video compression on Flickr is much better than YouTube. I put up a comparison here:
http://gammablog.com/2008/04/10/video-on-flickr-2/

It's funny, the first reaction of some in the community is NO!. http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/novideos/
Which I think is silly. It's an extra service, not something that is forced on anyone.

It obviously works by extracting body fat and turning it into a delicious whipped topping the whole family can enjoy.

It would be great if that first guy could come over and catalog my collection.

HOWTO make a camera stabilizer out of string, a screw and a washer

February 3, 2008 7:29am

I tried this out yesterday and found it useful. I modified the rig this morning using two nuts on the end positioned about 8 inches apart to give me two lengths to work with. One for straight ahead and the longer one for looking up. I've also experimented with inertia based stabilizing for video with a fair amount of success.

Fine news

They are a lovely bunch of names, plenty to choose from if Poesy won't do.

Walking chair sculpture isn't a chair, but it walks

January 25, 2008 4:24am

That video is hilariously surreal. Thanks for starting my day with a laugh, Cory.

Brooklyn Bridge to get a waterfall

January 19, 2008 7:33am

I'm looking forward to it. But what it really needs is pedal-powered pumps. The harder the volunteers pump the more the water falls. Exercise fanatics will flock to the bridge to take up the challenge. Heart attack waivers must be signed.

Video of Chuck Jones drawing Wile E. Coyote

A spontaneously illustrated interview. That was so good. I love his stories, and his descriptions of the various Warner characters are pithy.

That regulation has been rescinded, craigers!, though some transit cops apparently haven't heard the news.

Loren Coleman's Top Cryptozoology Stories of 2007

November 27, 2007 12:12pm

When did that photo of the mangy bear with its head turned towards the camera show up? The one with it's head turned the other way did look simian. Darn, I mean it didn't look like the R. Crumb illustration, but it did look simian.

Roachbot / Walter Robot

November 27, 2007 12:03pm

The glimpse of the bra hanging in the closet is the best bit of the lovelorn robot video. And why don't they let that roach drive around, see if he can navigate a maze or escape the room, or something less boring than staring at blinking LEDs?

Hulger Rethinks the CFL Light Bulb

November 21, 2007 7:16pm

I appreciate the artistry of these designs, but I don't like CFL. The mercury-waste is a problem, and the quality of the light is unpleasant. I'm hopeful of the rapid increase in quality of white LEDs. But until they are ready for my reading lamp, I've started replacing my regular incandescent bulbs with the halogens that painlessly screw in where the old bulb was and produces a bit more lumens per watt. Does anyone have information on the toxic footprint of either of these.

Dave Hill is a very funny guy (videos)

November 17, 2007 4:38am

He grows on you. By the time, 'Little Michael Jackson and Me' ended the cycle of automatically played videos, I was laughing out loud. Thanks Xeni, it was worth watching the Navy ads, for.

Boing Boing's new community features!

November 6, 2007 1:55am

I was unable to create an account using the name and email address I was using under the old system. It told me that those were already in use. And going the password recovery route, it told me that I was and "unknown user." I had to go to a new name and a different email account.
