Demonic radiator cap, 1938
March 29, 2008 2:40pm
Back in the '30's radiator caps used to be high art. I know I saw a magazine article once (in the infancy of the internet, when most stuff still existed in paper form) about Lalique radiator mascots, including eagles, women, etc. Very interesting, and at this point, very very valuable.
California asks for Real ID extension, but won't promise to comply

Yeah, I have a sneaking suspicion that this will ultimately fail on constitutional grounds. God bless my home state of Montana and its fed-hating populace for their stubbornness!
TSA steals food from doctors' infant children

Yeah, the whole "liquid explosives" thing has pretty much been shown to be BS. Under optimal conditions, someone MIGHT be able to concoct something that was flammable, not explosive mind you, but flammable. I think I'd be more worried about a guy in first class lighting his tiny bottle of scotch on fire.
TSA is pretty much mall security. A panacea or feelgood for the American public so that the government doesn't have to, say, actually address issues like a complete failure in foreign intelligence or lack of US standing and perception. Our aviation system is still incredibly vulnerable, and it ain't from excess baby food.
Cop roughs up teenage skateboarder on video

There is no excuse for that guys behavior. The kids may have deserved a ticket, if so, they should have gotten one without the two minute tirade. They may have deserved a talking to, but that can be accomplished in a professional manner.
This guy obviously has some anger management or abuse of authority issues. There is NO excuse, at all, for a 250 lb armed man to grab a 14 year old and throw him to the ground during what should be a reasonably straightforward and civil exchange. That he did speaks volumes about his character.
Midwest airlines to passenger who was screwed over and shouted at: we did nothing wrong and owe you nothing

One of the interesting things I got from this is the failure of the company's customer service folks to grasp the concept of negotiation. I have actually experienced this a couple of times in the past year or so. I had been used to making some sort of marginally unreasonable demand and then working towards the middle. Lately, I have been greeted with a stunned "Uhhh...." and then no offer at all. It has cost a few businesses my patronage. Though my local bank did negotiate when I had a disputed credit card charge, more incentive to do your business locally.
Vegetarian survival kit

Yep, I'll be the one eating the firearm-less vegan for protein in the event of a natural disaster.
Seriously though, vegetarianism or veganism are fine personal choices when conditions are optimal. If you have the chutzpah and moral inclination to do it (and aren't annoying about it to the omnivores in your life) then have at. If, however, you are in a serious survival situation and you choose to turn your nose at the roasted squirrel you have at hand, then you have made your choice about surviving.
By the way, roasted squirrel isn't that great, and I wouldn't recommend it unless you need it to survive.

MATTHARVEST has it almost entirely right about adverse possession, but the owner CAN know about the use (and just not do anything), they just can't have PERMITTED the use by the adverse possessor.
And I have been wondering about suburban slums for years. Sooner or later, it will become economically inconvenient to live in an 8 bedroom McMansion 60 miles from your workplace. The reverse white flight will re-gentrify anything within biking/walking/good public trans. distance of the high paying jobs, and the now displaced lower economic classes will probably be forced into the collar areas and have to deal with inefficient public transportation.
That's my theory at least. You might have to wait twenty years, but if you snap up property that is relatively close to major urban areas and already established public trans, I don't think you can lose.
