June 23, 2008 7:28am

Fred was one of my absolute heroes, a fantastic engineer and an all round lovely guy. Makes you glad that there are (were) people like him in the world.

Makes me proud to be English -> British...

Whimsical names of arrested Mafia bosses

Crikey - middle top looks like Bobby Baccalieri with a beard, and top right looks like a fat Phil Leotardo.

The Sopranos have really let themselves go after the end of the series...

RIP "Curry Hell" restaurateur

January 23, 2008 12:56am

That's a real shame, he was a fantastic guy and always a genial host and a great character. I live only a few minutes walk away from his restaurant, although it's been a while since I was there. The most memorable night there was when he had a rack of hats to choose from, which you could wear during your meal, and it was always fun being there.

I once tried a tiny bit of the Curry Hell, and it was like tear gas! When someone asked one of the waiters "Do you eat this?" the reply was "Of course not".

He was a friend to the guys and a gentleman to the girls.

BBC's iPlayer sold us out -- and then failed

November 28, 2007 5:25am

I guess you'll have seen this article too:

I took part in the information gathering excersise to voice my opposition to using DRM, but obviously they took the opposite route. I then complained to the BBC Trust, but they just replied with the usual "DRM was needed..." stock reply.

Please feel free to complain too:

Return of Diana camera after 35 years

October 11, 2007 5:49am

Plenty of labs still develop 120 film, and with a little hacking (and some google searches if you need to) they can take 35mm film anyway, and expose over the sprocket holes.

I have a new Diana and an old one, and even with the extra functions, I still prefer the original Diana.

Quite rightly, Antikewl mentions that they're available from the Lomo Society, and we gave them out as the official Lomo World Congress cameras in London this year.

Pinhole photography from inside the mouth

October 5, 2007 4:50am

I recently attended a talk by Justin during the Lomography World Congress in London, and can attest that he's a really interesting and mad as hell pinhole guy.

During his talk he drank a can of (no alcohol) beer, then made a pinhole camera in about a minute, then used a golf club to hit a 35mm SLR across the room. His book is well worth getting a copy of too!
