David Byrne turns a building into a musical instrument

May 13, 2008 7:42am

More songs by buildings? (and food?)

Mom and baby rob candy store

April 11, 2008 10:52am

As easy as stealing candy from a...
Nevermind.

Starbucks' formula has changed, let us count the (three) ways.

February 27, 2008 10:22pm

Intéressant. I go in for barista training tomorrow. Wish me luck, random BB readers!

Man creates online shrine for favorite cookie fortune

February 27, 2008 10:07pm

I've worked at a Chinese restaurant for the past three years, so I've accumulated quite a collection of fortune cookies. The moon one is my second favorite after "There is a nice cake waiting for you." Oh, the cake is such a lie.
A few more highlights: "You will have a party."; "You look pretty."; "May you have a good appetite."; "The job is well done."; "A carrot a day,may [sic] keep cancer away."; "You are going to have some new clothes."; "It tastes sweet."; "We are very happy together."; and "In god we trust;all [sic] others must pay cash."
My collection also has a gift from my girlfriend, which is the absolute craziest one of all: "Here we go. 'Moo Shu Cereal' for breakfast with duck sauce."

Real fake (un)natural Japanese packaging

February 24, 2008 8:54am

It wears her out.
It wears her out.

Behemoth printer is practically a wall

February 18, 2008 9:41am

My father actually works on printers like those. The printer itself may be large, but most of them need an entire other unit just to keep them cool. The air conditioning unit may be just as big as the printer itself.

Audrey Kawasaki new painting exhibition

February 11, 2008 12:31pm

I first got into Kawasaki in an issue of Hi Fructose, and I've been addicted ever since.

This was a plot device in The Swarm...

N-Tune In-Guitar Tuner

January 23, 2008 7:16pm

I really like the fact that it's chromatic, so it can (in concept) handle crazy tunings. Now you can play Kashmir without having to set up a completely different guitar.

The Brickley Engine

January 21, 2008 7:16pm

It's about time there's a new design for an engine. I'm not an engineer or mechanic, so I'm not sure of the details, but if it's really "better", I'm looking forward to change.
Okay, so I really came in here to comment on how... suggestive the animation looks to me.

Beet juice prevents icy streets

January 21, 2008 7:12pm

Beet juice...
Beet juice...
Beet juice...

Korean news anchor loses her job for giggling

January 16, 2008 12:18pm

It's not nearly as bad as this.

It's America's 6th Gitmoversary.

January 11, 2008 8:46pm

I never knew Buckethead felt so strongly about Guantanamo...

OK Go's LED Jackets

November 26, 2007 5:22pm

Daft Punk > Tron > OK Go > T-Qualizer > Wham
I'm saying this from an outfit standpoint, not a music standpoint.

Solar Toothbrush Being Tested

November 26, 2007 5:15pm

But do people really want to abandon toothpaste? Even if people won't need it, I'm sure they will still buy toothpaste for their fresh morning and evening mintiness.

ASCII Art's grandfather: Paul Smith

November 25, 2007 12:56pm

I submitted a similar link over a year ago. So I still claim this as a win for me.

A tour of magician Teller's house

November 23, 2007 7:58pm

This is cool. I've always loved Penn Jillette's penitentiary-style house.

Laptops designed by 7-year-olds

November 19, 2007 12:54pm

It's really interesting to consider that computers completely rewire our brains to think more logically. Using a computer forces us to consider abstract ideas like hierarchies, and shortcuts. And really, their ideas aren't too far off from what several companies try to do. A lot of keyboards have "hotkeys" for browsers and whatnot that seem like a good idea at surface value. However, pressing [CTRL+C] instead of a designated Copy button just seems more accessible. A bit like how a stenotype machines are chorded, rather than having a full keyboard.
I can see this thought process when trying to teach my mother simple tasks on the computer. She needs things to be very straightforward. If she uses a program, she needs a shortcut on her desktop. On the other hand, I have desktop shortcuts disabled. To me, having a program under an array of directories just seems more logical.
Eventually, all computers will just need three buttons: [1], [0], and [CTRL+ALT+DEL]

Futuristic Cereal Name Generator

November 18, 2007 12:18pm

I'm never going to get used to the thirty-first century. Caffeinated bacon? Baconated grapefruit? Admiral Crunch?

Vinegar as wonder substance

November 12, 2007 1:31pm

No volcanoes? What a disappointment.

October 24, 2007 8:04pm

When I was about 8 or so, I got a Lego cake for my birthday.

Pogues' Imponderable Tech Industry "Huhs?"

October 20, 2007 8:05pm

Here's one: Why is this guy trying to be David Feldman?
(Even stealing the term "Imponderables".)

World's *est: Art Lebedev Pultius Cudgel-like Remote

October 5, 2007 8:58pm

I came here to post precisely what DCulberson said. They even have the colors down.

"Streamgarden" Hydroponics Kit from Green Fortune

October 3, 2007 6:32pm

Come on. We ALL know what 80% of the people who would buy this kit are going to do with it. Pass the Cheetos, please.

Educational TV parody: Look Around You

October 1, 2007 7:42pm

I preferred season 1 (which was the more uniform school education parody), though my favorite moment came from the food episode of the second season. The "Slimby scariest picture possible" has been my default user picture/avatar for every website for the past year or so.

Also, Imhotep is invisible.

New Haunted Mansion in Disney World - Video with binaural sound!

September 14, 2007 8:04pm

You're happy because the ad hocs have finally taken over the Mansion? What has Debra done to the real Cory Doctorow?

RIP: author Madeleine L’Engle

September 7, 2007 8:24pm

Why must 2007 kill all of my favorite writers? Robert Anton Wilson, Vonnegut, and now L'Engle. I swear, if something happens to Mark Z. Danielewski, I will hunt down and kill the year 2007.

Welcome to the new Boing Boing!

August 28, 2007 9:17am

Aesthetically, the change isn't huge, so I like it. (I hate having to relearn how to navigate a site.) However, I love that comments are back.
