Einstein: Religion is "childish," "primitive"

May 14, 2008 11:28am

I think the most meaningful comments on religion have been made by George Carlin. I think he sums it up pretty well.

Einstein: Religion is "childish," "primitive"

May 14, 2008 6:07am

Ah religion. I often wonder when the rest of the world is going to grow up and join the adults at the big kid's table. This belief in invisible father/mother figures is...well...strange to me. But that isn't what bothers me. People can believe whatever they choose to.

What bothers me is people using these superstitious beliefs as an excuse for war and bigotry. Such people are, to me, insane, having allowed some nonsensical bit of voodoo to so shade their opinion of the world that it is okay to go out and kill people because .

You don't see a lot of people reading books on physics using those tomes to justify mass slaughter of people who don't agree with them. That remains the claim of religion.

Religion doesn't start ALL wars, but it sure has started a LOT of wars and caused a great deal of suffering.

As for the religious people out there who are good, charitable people? You don't need to "have religion" to be a good person.

So Einstein didn't believe in religion. That isn't likely going to change the mind of any religious person. It just means that the more rational minded of us don't have to keep having an Einstein quote thrown in our face as "proof" taht even science bows to religion.

Ghost Bikes memorialize accidents

April 30, 2008 1:57pm

I think that this is a nice idea, but it doesn't address the real problem. Police need to step up traffic enforcement nationwide. Tailgating, running red lights, and other dangerous behaviors are becoming commonplace and everyone, cyclist or not, needs protection.

NYPD cops videoed illegally warring on photographers

April 29, 2008 10:21am

In Las Vegas, pedestrians and bicycles have the right of way so long as they don't endanger motorists (ie suddenly dashing out into the street to run through traffic). So, in the state of Nevada if you are pulling through a green light and a bunch of cyclists come the other way and you hit them? They are at fault.

Simply put, the rules of the road apply to everyone, motorists and cyclists alike. Cyclist groups like this only add to the problem when enforcement of traffic laws is already a problem. Gee, make things worse and think you'll be hailed as a hero? I think not.

I agree that our roads need to be safer for cyclists, heck, I agree that we need more bicycles and less cars on the road. HOWEVER, this is not a way to win sympathy for your cause. It is a good way to get people pissed off and ignore your message though.

If CM wants to carry through with this? Do what everyone else has to do and get a parade permit. Free assembly is one thing, however I'm pretty sure that the Constitution also doesn't promise the right to play in traffic and endanger others.

These people are idiots and should be arrested. They shouldn't be BEATEN or ABUSED, they should just be dragged off their bikes and ticketed.

These guys KNEW the police where there to stop them and ignored a lawful order. In New York they are lucky not to have been shot 40-50 times.

NYPD cops videoed illegally warring on photographers

April 29, 2008 9:27am

Ah yes, let's just shoot everyone because the police got rough on some people breaking the law. Great thinking.

How exactly ARE police supposed to stop lawbreakers on bicycles? Just wait for them to get tired? It isn't like the police were dragging them off their bikes and beating them with batons. They simply used the most expedient way of stopping them.

If you want to be outraged about NY police, be pissed off that they can murder a man after his bachelor party and get off scott free. Remember, if you want to get pissy about rights, let's start with LIFE...not an imagined right to ignore traffic laws because you don't like them.

Getting all pissy and viva revolution because they stopped some morons who were collectively ignoring the law? That's not exactly a worthy cause.

NYPD cops videoed illegally warring on photographers

April 29, 2008 8:45am

Two wrongs don't make a right, but NOT committing a wrong can prevent another one. If these cycling cretins hadn't been breaking the law in the first place, the second event wouldn't have happened. So, while it does NOT excuse the actions of the police in this case, it certainly wipes away any sympathy I have on a bunch of idiots.

So no, two wrongs don't make a right. However when the second wrong is directed at a bunch of retarded gibbons who KNOW that they are causing trouble? Then two wrongs makes no sympathy.

NYPD cops videoed illegally warring on photographers

April 29, 2008 5:09am

It seems that, while the police may have been acting inappropriately, that this film is just a bit of Critical Mass propaganda. Having read here how Critical Mass itself simply ignores traffic laws (something here that nobody is denying), it makes them just as wrong, if not more so. After all, it means that they are instigating the problem about which they are complaining.

I'll leave my outrage for legitimate issues.

Selective enforcement. The legal system calls it unconstitutional. Police call it "professional courtesy."

This is a joke. The cop should pay his ticket like anybody else and get on with life. Considering that he's been known to cover for friends who are driving drunk, and also known for roughing up the CLERGY?

I'm betting he doesn't learn his lesson.

Machinehead, I think the behavior of anyone making fun at the plight of these people (American or otherwise) is simply repugnant. Sadly many of the users of the internet are much like the population of Rome before the fall... so jaded that there is nothing left that shocks them.

Jokes about people who's level of starvation is this great are beyond bad taste.

Special license plates shield officials from traffic tickets

April 7, 2008 4:56pm

Police should be held to a HIGHER standard, not a lower one. To serve and protect means EVERYONE, not the select few.

that said, I have no problem if a police officer exercises their discretion, so long as that discretion is used all the time and not just in the case of fellow police officers.

I've met police officers who were nothing other than armed thugs, I've met police officers who were some of the finest people I've ever met. I certainly don't think that they all should be treated equally just because they carry a badge.

Professional courtesy would be POLITELY giving them a ticket for speeding. This isn't professional courtesy, it is dereliction of duty. When are police officers going to see that? Police are not immune to the law.

Daniel_K, Creative's Public Enemy No. 1, Speaks

April 1, 2008 12:22pm

Yeah, when a company admits that they have been deliberately crippling functionality on products that people have already purchased?!

Well, Sony issues an apology for the root kit, so maybe Creative will come to their senses. Though I'm not holding my breath either.

Creative Stops Hacker from Improving Their Product

March 31, 2008 4:36pm

Hey MD, missed your post the last time.

Thing is, the widget is already in place and HAS been in place. Creative just decided to not let people USE the widget so that they could charge more for that feature later.

Yes, Creative wasn't behind the decision to revamp the OS. However, what has come to light is that the products that Creative has been selling as "Vista Ready" actually are, it is just that Creative is disabling features via the drivers which is making the product have problems with Vista.

So they tell their customers that the product will work with Vista and it will, if you use SOMEONE ELSE'S driver because they have crippled functionality on a product that you have purchased and not told consumers about it.

That's more like selling you a car and then using the on-board computer to kill the ignition. You still own the car, and I'll sell you the ignition system driver later for more money.

Creative Stops Hacker from Improving Their Product

March 31, 2008 4:04pm

From one of the MANY news articles on this story...

But why would a company set out to prevent people from helping one another fix problems in hardware it's already sold them?

The answer is the sad one you've probably learned to expect: O'Shaughnessy admits that Creative Labs intentionally crippled its Vista drivers as a business strategy.

"If we choose to develop and provide host-based processing features with certain sound cards and not others, that is a business decision that only we have the right to make."

Griefers deface epilepsy message-board with seizure-inducing animations

March 31, 2008 2:29pm

Here is the thing. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that the Church of Scientology *IS* behind this as a way of attacking Anonymous.

ANYONE can be a member of Anonymous by saying that they are a member of Anonymous. So, if some Scientology hackers did do this and claim to be members of Anonymous, then BOTH Anonymous and Scientology are behind this.

When you have an organization that anyone can be a member of, where people can pretty much do whatever they want, this was bound to happen sooner or later.

Creative Stops Hacker from Improving Their Product

March 31, 2008 11:36am

It seems, at least from the posts, that what this person discovered was that several pieces of functionality were deliberately turned off by the drivers. Thus making the cards less useful on new systems so that people would upgrade to newer products.

To use the car analogy that would be like a manufacturer deliberately decreasing your MPG to the point where you felt the need to purchase a new one when the car would've worked just fine without their tampering.

If this is indeed the case, this is a HUGE issue. Planned obsolescence is one thing, going in and shortening the usable lifespan of a product that has been purchased is a whole different issue.

Perhaps Creative should take a lesson from Sony and stop tampering with their customers' computers and peripherals.

Really, attacking people in general is rather sad.

Transgender man is pregnant

March 24, 2008 7:52pm

Antinous,
once again, you are obviously projecting your own issues onto my words.

"Perhaps you could re-read your own comment and then read most of the other subsequent comments, particular the ones from women and transgendered persons. That might help you understand that a lot of people are offended by the question, Can a transgender woman ever experience life exactly as a genetic female without even having the capability to bear a child?

"You have asked if women can truly be women if they can't be used as baby machines."

Nope, your comment is wholly inaccurate. See, I've NEVER stated that you can't be a woman without the ability to bear children. Indeed, I fully accept transgendered individuals. I am CURIOUS as to how their life experience as a woman might differ. That is a wholly seperate thing.

I don't know, maybe you are so used to dealing with bigotry that you see it everywhere, but really, you do nobody any favors by picking fights with people who are looking at things from a wholly philosophical level. Let me quote a DIFFERENT portion of my post to you, one you seem to have skipped...

"Now, THIS (this being my comments and opinions) isn't really an important issue."

Because I'm a bit off-topic here. I'm pondering something that is difficult, if not impossible, to quantify. Does a transgendered person really get the full experience of their chosen gender? This isn't to mock, poke fun, or ridicule, its a serious question.

I'm not sitting here saying that woman are baby farms. I'm not sitting here arguing about their sexual preferences. I'm simply pondering the more ephemeral aspects of this.

Should gender matter? No.
Does it matter in the US? No more than race or sexual preference. Sadly, BOTH, of those things still have a great impact on our daily lives.

I'm not confusing gender identity with sexual identity, they are wholly separate things and can, in some circumstances, come into SERIOUS conflict.

Again, I'm pondering, I suppose pondering aloud, about the differences, if any, of the life experiences of a transgendered person versus a genetically gendered person. Studies have shown that at least some of our behaviors are linked to our genetic makeup and, if that is the case, how much of our behaviors might be linked to our genetic gender. What, if any, differences are there between the genders that might cause differences.

I have never, though apparently some people seem to think I have, tried to MINIMIZE the life experience of anyone. I'm discussing differences. Perhaps too many of you are used to flaming at people who you perceive to not follow your belief system to get that.

As for the question as to why they didn't adopt? Chances are that they wouldn't have been able to. When a state like Florida can pass legislation to ban same-sex couples from adopting children, how easy can it actually be for a family with a transgendered individual to adopt.

Someone above said something really important. It is FAR too easy to say "Oh, that kid will be messed up because their parents are weird." Far too easy. That sort of rhetoric has been used by anti-gay groups as reasoning that gay couples shouldn't be able to adopt. The fact is that every child deserves two loving and supportive parents, even though a growing number of children in the US don't get that basic need fulfilled.

I'm not concerned about this child at all. These parents have gone through a great deal to be able to have this child, and I'm betting that they treasure their daughter far more than many parents in this country feel about their children.

But again Antinous? Don't put your own words in my mouth. If you are reading what I'm saying, and you are still getting what you are telling me that I'm saying? I think you need to perhaps look at whatever hidden things you have lurking in your own mind. Because the crap you are saying is coming from somewhere and...as a hint? It isn't coming from me.

Transgender man is pregnant

March 24, 2008 4:10pm

No Antonius, I think your grasp of what I am saying is an Epic fail. If you stop projecting your bias (or your defensiveness against perceived slight)you will see how wrong you are.

Honestly, it just looks like you are trolling for a flame war with me, and I have no idea why.

As for #47? Gender identity is VERY important to Transgendered people. Think about it, you are talking about a number of people who felt so strongly about their gender identities that they underwent surgery.

Of course they are going to be offended by the wrong gender pronoun.

Transgender man is pregnant

March 24, 2008 3:42pm

No Antinous, not once have I said that ANYONE, transgendered or not, is not a woman simply because they can't bear children. I think you need to cool your jets and read the rest of my post.

As for infertile women? Being infertile is often a sharp blow to the psyche. One moment you think you are capable of bearing children and then you learn for certain that you are not. So the vast majority of infertile women STILL have a very different life experience to a transgendered woman because most of certainly didn't know they were infertile for their entire lives.

I'm speaking about the differences in gender life experiences here, and I'm certainly not trying to put out biased gender views. I'd appreciate it if you would refrain from overlaying your own bias onto my words.

Transgender man is pregnant

March 24, 2008 3:25pm

I think you are reading too far into that statement.

"Wanting to have a biological child is neither a male nor female desire, but a human desire."

That doesn't mean that you aren't human if you don't want children, only that the desire to have a child is not a gender specific desire.

Transgender man is pregnant

March 24, 2008 3:18pm

I once learned that a person was transgender after watching them melt-down after someone used the phrase, "you guys." The strength of that reaction was almost frightening. While most of us take gendered pronouns for granted in some cases, understandably those who have undergone gender transformation are a lot more sensitive about it.

I've always found transgender psychology interesting. While someone above has stated that "Being a man isn't strictly about having a dick," a large portion of male psychology IS about the penis.

I wonder how full of a gender experience any transgender person can every truly get. Can a transgender man without a penis ever experience life exactly as a genetic male? Can a transgender woman ever experience life exactly as a genetic female without even having the capability to bear a child?

I don't think so, at least not yet. Of course the matter of EXACT isn't important, but it certainly would be interesting to learn what the differences in those life experiences are.

I do not disagree that gender identity is important and that people who view themselves as a different gender should have the option to transform their body cosmetically to fit their self-perception.

Because so few in the medical community seem to understand gender dysphoria and GID it is really hard to say if any transgender person is getting the full experience.

Now, THIS (this being my comments and opinions) isn't really an important issue. But I just got to thinking about that with a father giving birth to a child. Childbirth is a female experience, much as some men might claim to empathize or to understand it, let's face it, we really don't. It is something wholly wrapped up in the life experience of woman.

It leaves me wondering what the possible long-term effects on this father's gender identity may be. The whole thing is simply fascinating and I hope that the couple consider telling their story to a psychological journal as this event could serve to teach us all a great deal more about ourselves.

CEO of subprime mortgage broker fined $29,000 for dropping 73 f-bombs during deposition

March 20, 2008 8:22am

A couple years back a friend of mine went to work at a mortgage lender and quit when she realized that they were writing bad loans. Of course, the loans get sold in packages, so THAT company got their money and a profit and passed the crap off to someone else.

People like this guy are the reason that people are losing their homes and things are spiraling out of control. They raped the system by committing massive fraud.

Operation Hulk, a Green Twist on an Old Game

There have been a lot of Operation-style games over the years. The one I loved the most was (if I recall correctly) a combination of operation and a board game. You'd move around until you got the chance to dig for treasure and touching the sides lit up the watchman's lantern.

Man I'd love to find that game again.

So no, no Disney Porn Park.

Surveillance vote in house imminent, EFF's call for action

February 14, 2008 12:01pm

The House is *NOT* going to pass the Bill. While the Republican minority rants about the Democrats taking action on other things, let's look at the reasons being given for the Bill not being passed.

Retroactive immunity for the big telcoms. We already know that AT&T has a nice big room in California that ALL their traffic is going through. EVERYTHING is being monitored. There is not warrant, not even from a system that allows the government to get a warrant AFTER the fact. This is illegal. The government wants to protect the companies that have been helping them break the law.

Second is President Bush's apparent opinion that he can do whatever he wants when it comes to domestic spying. The FISA Bill clearly outlines what his authority is, however he refuses to accept the limitations that the laws of the United States place on his actions.

Gee...both things seem to boil down to, the President of the United States is *NOT* above the laws of the United States.

As for Bush's claims? The man claims that if FISA isn't passed the United States is at greater risk. This SAME President has refused to sign an extension of the act (offered by the Democrats) and has threatened to veto any bill that didn't include immunity for the folks over at AT&T and the like.

Gee, tell me again who is more important. AT&T or the citizens of the United States. Seems to be that our President thinks it is more important to protect the telcoms than it is to protect us from this clear threat that only he knows about.

So....

Is President Bush a liar or a traitor?

Afghanistan: death sentence for downloading, distributing report on oppression of women

February 2, 2008 9:39am

Here's my thought.

We round up all the Neo-Nazis, racist skinheads, Christian Fundies on the level of "Reverend" Phelps, Klansman, Muslim Extremists and the rest, drop them on an island to fight to the death while the rest of the world moves on its merry way...stopping only long enough to bomb the island.

Let's be real for a moment. Hate, bigotry and ignorance breed more of the same. It seems easier to teach someone to hate, than it is to teach someone who hates to get past their own bigotry.

Yes, it is easy to point the finger at Radical Islam and call them hate filled death mongers. But really? Sad as it is to say, it is part of the human condition.

We tend to think that we are so advanced when really? We're simply primates fighting for territory against groups who are different from us. Whether it is Latino gangs in LA shooting people because of their skin, or Whites in Texas dragging people to death behind pickup trucks.

Certainly, these occurrences aren't ultimately widespread, but I feel that the reason they aren't is because of the thin skin of civilization that so many people wear. I've met a wide number of bigots who I fear would gladly do the same things if they thought they could get away with it.

For this sort of thing to end, it will take change on a GLOBAL scale. Frankly, I don't see that happening.

The Brickley Engine

January 21, 2008 2:27pm

Anything that serves to lessen demand for oil is a good thing. If oil prices go down, the prices of EVERYTHING goes down. Of course, the longer gas stays at the $3 (and soon to be $4 range) the more cost effective alternative fuels become, especially at start up when the tech is always the costliest.

As it stands now? If I recall, 1,000 miles a month isn't an outlandish basis for driving. Now, the new H3 gets 20 miles to the gallon. Gas here is 3.19 so that means it costs $1914 a year to run a hummer. A hybrid Ford Escape (to not downsize from an SUV) gets about 31 MPG. That costs about $1235 a year to run. Close to $700 less. If everyone were just FUEL conscious it would help. When I see people driving the monsters that get MPG of 16 or so? I just want to tear out my hair.

Yeah, they pay for the gas, and increase demand, so *I* pay more for MY gas too.

Benazir Bhutto assassinated

I still disagree that she was the best hope they had. She's NOT the only candidate running. Perhaps ONE of the others might not be as corrupt as the rest? Perhaps her assassination might galvanize those who want change into voting in a cohesive block.

I'm not saying her death is the BEST thing that could've happened, but it COULD lead to change.

Benazir Bhutto assassinated

December 28, 2007 1:26pm

T - I have to say that when you make a comment like

"Two things are true. First, Benazir Bhutto was astoundingly corrupt. Second, she was the best hope for democracy in Pakistan. Anyone who can't hold both those facts in his or her head isn't ready to play with the big kids." and then chastise someone for "crimes against the proper conduct of legitimate debate."

I have to wonder what exactly is going on. The first is a statement of fact, the second is YOUR opinion, but an opinion that you hold so tightly as to state that those who don't agree simply aren't up to snuff.

What exactly are the rules here on Boing Boing? Carry on a discussion in a way that you don't see fit and get censored, DISAGREE with you and get dismissed.

Aren't Moderators supposed to MODERATE rather than simply enforce their opinions?

I WHOLLY disagree that Benazir Bhutto was the best hope for democracy in Pakistan. I think she was more of the same wearing a different face. Certainly electing a leader for whom INTERPOL had arrest warrants for isn't a great move for Democracy. Nor is electing a person who had, in the past, used the position to merely line their own pockets.

One could argue that being ABLE to vote for Bhutto was a great step for Democracy, but a vote for rampant corruption is HARDLY a vote towards a healthy democracy.

Terribly sorry if you feel I'm not bombastic enough to "play with the big kids."

Benazir Bhutto assassinated

December 27, 2007 12:16pm

#30

It is even more important to remember that the assassinations of The deaths of Lincoln, Kennedy, and even Indira Ghandi were wholly different (I'll admit to being unaware of the details of Mackenzie's assassination).

Lincoln and Kennedy, for example, were assassinated by lone gunman who, even if politically motivated, had no real power past their own deaths.

The assassination if Indira Ghandi was a bit more convoluted...certainly much closer to what happened in Pakistan today. Indira Ghandi had been feared by many as a tyrant and only started to gain real popularity after she was ejected from parliament and put on trial. It was after her return to power that she was killed.

This sounds similar enough to the current situation to be noteworthy. Of course, after her death sectarian violence broke out and things basically went to hell for a bit.

Of course, Indira Ghandi's assassination owes quite a bit to Operation "Blue Star."

However, the comparison to Archduke Ferdinand also bears looking at since it was an assassination carried out for political ends by a group that continued to work towards its stated goals, much like Al Qaeda today.

While I don't think this is going to plunge us into another World War, I'd also think it best not to quickly dismiss the possibility.

Benazir Bhutto assassinated

I'm torn on this event. While I certainly do not celebrate her assassination, I don't know as she was the savior of Pakistan as she was being portrayed. This is a woman who Interpol had an arrest warrant for and who's government was dismissed TWICE for corruption.

On the opposite end though, her death only serves to further disrupt and destabilize the region. For those who believe that the Pakistani government was behind this? Bear in mind that she never could've returned to Pakistan, without facing immediate arrest, had it not been for the government granting her amnesty.

No matter how you look at it though, this is NOT a good day.

TSA is as unpopular as the IRS -- UPDATED

December 23, 2007 10:32am

The blatant stupidity of the TSA regulations simply boggles the mind. I can walk onto an airplane (assuming I don't get the random security pull (which is shown on your boarding pass as SSSS) with enough explosives to down a plane, no problems. If I get tagged for random screening, I could easily have an accomplice do it.

The TSA's arbitrary regulations don't impede terrorist plots, they just annoy travelers. There has not been a single case of the TSA foiling a terrorist plot, only advanced knowledge has done that.

And come on, we've been at Security Orange for well over a year now.

All of this easily bypassed security theater is pointless. You don't need a legitimate boarding pass to get through security, you can sneak anything not metal past security on your person...

How are they protecting us again? I'm waiting for terrorists to carry leaky bottles of binary agents that, when mixed in the trash cans that the TSA throws all of their "dangerous" liquids in, forms a nerve toxin that wipes out everyone in the backed up security line.

If those victims are at LAX? Then the terrorists have done them a favor anyhow.

Charitable giving guide, the 2007 edition

December 10, 2007 7:38am

My charity of choice for the year is "Pirates for the Preservation of New Orleans Music", an organization created to aid the school music programs of New Orleans.

With so many things to repair and replace in post Katrina New Orleans schools, spending on school music programs is at an all time low, despite the fact that there aren't enough instruments to go around.

The charity is working with several New Orleans charities to coordinate their efforts. They have also just released a fund-raising CD of pirate music, "Lafitte's Return".

Driver tasered for refusing to sign traffic ticket

November 28, 2007 1:24am

In a society where a father will beat another man to death at his son's hockey game is it a shock that we have police that behave as badly as the rest of America?

Sometimes I think that our society as a whole needs to tone it down a notch. Things like this should never happen...but they are happening in all walks of life with greater frequency. Police misconduct is just more visible, and certainly even more frightening.

I think Boing Boing has crossed the line. One doesn't need to watch a snuff film to be outraged by the agonizing death of another human being. Posting this link goes beyond bad-taste, it is absolutely undefendable and is EXACTLY the sort of thing that other extremists have done to make THEIR points.

Whether the Tasering of a frightened and angry tourist, or the slow beheading of a captive in the middle east, those who post such things are slime and beneath contempt.

I've greatly enjoyed Boing Boing Mark, but if you are just going to use it as a vehicle to show snuff films, color me disgusted and gone.

Twin Peaks -- 10 DVD set

Damn, this is pretty irritating. Wait all this time, snap up season 2 and now this? Way to screw over the people who ran out to pick up the season releases.

Vatican publish Knights Templar documents

October 13, 2007 5:59am

Why the high price? I mean, they could've made a larger run at a much lower price and they'd have sold them all. But $8,000 books? Who besides the Vatican can even AFFORD that.

Boy arrested for Anarchist Cookbook

October 8, 2007 1:48pm

Nice to see that police in countries OTHER THAN the United States can horribly over react and arrest people for stupid things. I was beginning it was just us and the tinpot dictators.

Sheesh.

I can walk onto an airplane with enough explosives to bring it down, but I can't get through security with a bottle of water. Instead I have to buy a bottle of water for $3.50 at LAX.

It is amazing that Amazon UK hasn't been shut down for "supporting terrorism" yet. I suppose we just need to give it time.

Video: War Robot Destroyed by IED

September 20, 2007 12:27pm

It doesn't really matter what you think of the war, for or against. I think we can all agree that the robot was worth the money versus the arms and/or legs that the IED may have cost some poor soldier.

Laugh Out Loud Cats meet tasered Florida student

September 19, 2007 9:40pm

Considering the fact that this guy has a website of himself being a trouble-making ass-hat (such as his video from the date of the Harry Potter release, standing in traffic with a sign that reads "Harry Dies") I'm willing to bet that this is indeed the case.

For all the uproar about this one, it doesn't bother me in the least.

Way to spin her stupidity as the View suffers a backlash from hiring an idiot.

Co-host of The View doesn't know if Earth is round or flat (video)

September 19, 2007 12:14pm

The rampant stupidity of my fellow citizens never fails to astonish me. Let's not mince words here, this woman is ignorant. She doesn't belong on television, she doesn't belong at home with her family, she belongs in an elementary school getting the education that she somehow missed. Stupidity is a disease, and she's spreading it to her children.

TSA: war on coffee successful, boxcutters not so much

September 18, 2007 5:06pm

Let's face it, all we have in the US is Security Theater. It would be remarkably easy to walk onto an airplane with enough explosives to ruin everyone's day. As long as you don't have "SSSS" on your boarding pass for extra security screening, you can get through every time.

Airport security hasn't stopped a single documented threat, all it does is give the masses a feeling of false security.

RIP, Robert Jordan

September 17, 2007 1:34pm

bzishi - Just detected last year? Hell, I knew his health was bad a DECADE ago. The standard excuse for why it took so long between books was that he was in very ill health. Rumor was that he's nearly died...and this was 10 years ago.

The man has been in bad health for as long as I can remember.

RIP, Robert Jordan

September 17, 2007 8:32am

I have no reason to believe that Robert Jordan, the man, was anything but a kind-hearted man deserving of praise. What I don't understand is Robert Jordan, the author. Knowing that millions of readers worldwide were waiting for the conclusion of the Wheel of Time Saga and knowing that he was ill, he chose to lengthen the series through prequels rather than complete it.

I long ago gave up on reading the bloated monstrosity that started so strong and then stalled so horribly. I just don't understand what he was thinking. Srly h ddn't vw hs rdrs s jst csh cw t b mlkd, bt t crtnly lkd tht wy.

Capitol police attack, break leg of anti-war minister (video)

September 12, 2007 6:15pm

This makes me sick to my stomach. A man waits in line to enter the gallery, gets refused entrance and winds up with a broken leg, not to mention charges filed against him.

If you listen real closely you can hear the ringing of Jack Boots.

Welcome to the new America.

Am I the only one who is physically sickened by watching 6 police attack a minister?
