Argentinian "gnome" scaring the bejezus out of kids

March 13, 2008 4:17pm

Creepy. As. Fuck.

If I have to be rational, I'd think some modded remote-control radio shack-type robot. the side-to-side swing has a cheap-toy feel to it, once the heebie-jeebies subside. IF they subside. My personal heebies are still pretty jeebied.

ComplaintRemover promises to rid the Intertubes of LOLCats

I for one would contribute to a fund to pay for lolcat removal services... I just want to see what happens when they try!

Beet juice prevents icy streets

That's gonna stink in spring, no? and in garages and entrance halls.. mm, rotting vegetable juice.

Midwest airlines to passenger who was screwed over and shouted at: we did nothing wrong and owe you nothing

January 8, 2008 7:21am

An incident like this I don't chalk up to "system". There are enough idiots in the world on both sides of the line without them needing to be organized to practice idiocy.

What would it be like to be the last person on Earth?

January 4, 2008 12:49pm

Who are all those people standing behind the last man on earth?

Icelandic "shopping terrorist" menace thwarted at JFK

Lakota Natives Withdraw Treaties with U.S.

December 20, 2007 10:21am

Rock on, Lakotas.
Though I also believe the feds will laugh at the sovereignty, it's not like they ever took the native rights in the treaties seriously.

Icelandic tourist to US held for two days, shackled, deported -- over a ten-year-old visa mistake

December 17, 2007 6:19am

Guilty before proven innocent, eh? Which pretty much sums up her entire experience.

1. In her blog post she makes it clear that she *has* travelled to the U.S. again since the time she overstayed her visa. She had no problems then so had no reason to expect problems this time.

2. "there were a couple times when she was hungry/thirsty and she couldn't get food/water." - re-read the article. She was held without being able to rest, eat or drink for at least ten hours.

Nice how you comfortably state "prior crimes" when all we know about is a visa infringement. Thanks for reinforcing the negative reputation of the U.S. abroad.

Video of ultra creepy animated dentist training robot

November 28, 2007 6:38pm

She might be creepy, but it beats beginners playing in real human mouths.
I was dirt poor many years ago, and the only dental treatment I could afford was at the local dental school (admittedly one with high accreditation and reputation). It was ... an experience. Sometimes you lucked out and got the born pro, sometimes you got the butcher. I had the butcher for a year, and I think pretty much every person he worked on would have been happy for him to have had a doll instead. Like the guy who had him for a demo and got the wrong tooth pulled. Definitely me, with horror stories too numerous to share.
Funnily enough, my current (diplomaed, excellent) dentist was a classmate of his.

@TruthFriction5 #55: Actually, it's people who are being rude who are being disemvowelled; the viewpoints are not the issue.
Funny how it's free speech when people want to be impolite and self-aggrandizement when Cory wants to talk about his book.

So this about people who say that Cory shouldn't be able to say whatever he wants, who are complaining that they can't say whatever they want?

Death Cab for Cutie guitarist's album disappears down the DHS memory-hole

October 20, 2007 4:03pm

Couldn't the files containing the album
have just been "transported" by ftp?

That was my first thought, but sometimes reliable connections for large amounts of data can be hard to come by. I remember seeing a multinational company with its own secure network Fedexing a hard drive full of data to another office because the network just couldn't handle the amount of data to transfer.

Death Cab for Cutie guitarist's album disappears down the DHS memory-hole

Why on earth would this be the only copy? Who only keeps one copy of valuable digital media?
Something smells fishy.
