NYPD cop: videoing me breaking the law is a terrorist act
April 23, 2008 8:56am
Quick! Call 311! A police officer parked illegally!
Water filled plastic bags on trees scare bugs away?

mcdonough (#6) Please don't kill the bees! We need the bees!
HOWTO divide a freezer-bag into individual servings before freezing
April 15, 2008 9:15am
Brown sugar gets hard as a rock pretty fast no matter how you store it. It's not spoiled, just impossible to divide into measurable amounts.
So that's why I pre-measure it into pucks and freeze, wrapped in plastic wrap.
When I want to use, I just sprinkle a puck with a couple drops of water, pop it into the microwave for about 10-15 seconds, and walla!
Lawsuit about risk of CERN and parallel universe
April 15, 2008 7:58am
I'm confident that if it this thing was really dangerous to the universe, aliens would appear at the last minute to prevent us from doing damage. (Or, they would just obliterate Earth to eliminate the human menace.)
HOWTO divide a freezer-bag into individual servings before freezing

I do the same thing with brown sugar -- but instead of squares I freeze it into 1/4 cup "pucks" ready to use in baking recipes.

Tokyo dog-rental service
March 31, 2008 4:35am
I only wish there was a place I could take my own dog for go dog-sitting. Someplace nice where the dogs could get to play in the park instead of being in a kennel.
TSA: laptops will stop making planes explode if you just build a bag like this one
March 5, 2008 11:59am
My laptop already lives in form-fitting neoprene sleeve with no straps, pockets, zippers or handles to interfere with xrays. Yet TSA demands it be unsleeved and sent through the conveyor naked.
This proposed redesign is just another misdirection by the TSA intended to improve public opinion. The TSA has no intention of making things easier for travelers.
Library built into a staircase
February 20, 2008 4:52am
I bet the alternating widths of the treads give each shelf some extra light from above while still giving enough room to plant your foot. You'd have to get used to always going up the steps in the same left-right-left stepping pattern.
TSA apologizes to "blogesphere" for arbitrary gadget screenings
February 7, 2008 5:38am
I'm not at all impressed.
It would be too easy to create a small and inexplicable inconvenience, sit back and wait for the backlash, announce a 'mea culpa', then bask in the glow of 'wow they got it right' feedback.
Bright lights cause big sneezes

I also have this sun allergy :)
I've always felt it was caused by the speed of iris constriction.

Many large publishers (at least those who have their origins in print) have automated content copy flow systems that spit out HTML versions simultaneously with whatever versions are needed for syndication, print, etc. in whatever markup language those formats require.
So it's not really hand-code vs. wysiwyg-code, it's hand-code vs. choose the story from a menu and click the publish button.
