Life expectancy is still going up.
Study Shows Decline in Life Expectancy for American Women. Among the causes are increased diabetes and heart disease.
As for organics versus factory farming, there is no proof that nutrients are more plentiful in organic produce.
I'm not talking about organic versus inorganic. The point is that agri-produce has selectively bred for shelf-life, not for nutrients. If you actually read Pollan, you'll see, for example, that the ratio between types of Omega fatty acids has reversed in the negative direction due to the types of produce that have been selected. Have you even bothered to read what he's written?

No. Here's the analogy. You slip the maitre d' a hundred. Your waiter knows that you always tip 30%. Your food still comes out late and cold. Why? Because the cook didn't tip the waiter to bring it out hot and fast. Get it? I see your point and it's true, except that I think you reach a point where the unhealthy food starts to gross you out and the healthy food starts to be really appealing. I love eating lots of fruit and vegetables. Part of the reason is that I don't buy corporate styrofoam produce. Real strawberries and tomatoes are as tasty as candy. Agri-business ones? You can't even tell the difference between a strawberry and a tomato. They're bred for shelf-life rather than flavor.

Normative recommendations for diet should be done through boring, peer reviewed journal papers.
The same ones that put us on the path to national morbid obesity. Food science is the biggest public health disaster since the influenza outbreak of 1917. He's done the detective work that shows how agri-business has leaned on Congress to twist the results of scientific research. Food science is paid for by the food industry. It's the kind of science which will inevitably come to conclusions that support nutritionally valueless products that put more money in the pockets of the ultra-rich. Unsaturated fats? The carb revolution?
For the first time in decades, average life expectancy in the US is beginning to decline. The crap that we are fed is counteracting all the benefits of better medical care. When the eighty year olds who grew up eating real food are gone, the next few generations are likely to see life expectancy rolled back by a decade. And that's laid at the doorstep of agri-business funded food science which gave us the nutritional advice which has larded an extra thirty pounds of fat onto us.

I don't just eat a snickers bar because I'm a stupid American who's been duped by industry, I really and truly like that shit.
But....you like it because you've been trained to like it and to be addicted to the sugar rush. I've lived on Haagen Dazs and it tasted good at the time. But now that I eat really well, I do feel much better than I used to. Of course, I still eat a pint of Haagen Dazs every night before bed, but it's in context of three cooked meals and fifteen portions of fruits and vegetables. I think that age makes a big difference, too. At twenty, you can get shitfaced every night and feel fine. At fifty, heavy drinking makes you feel horrible. Your diet will catch up with you as well.

Has anyone else realized that this school is NOT a military school?
The military part doesn't really alarm me. If they're going into the military, they'll get military training which will be either good or bad. Whatever they did in high school will be largely irrelevant. I'm more concerned with the 'security' track. Private Security has been a euphemism for Paid Bully since the time of the pharaohs. Taking potential bullies away from a school that might impress some humanity on them and putting them into paid bully training at such a young age is asking for trouble.

if morality is not legislated then the world would be much much worse then it is.
I think the opposite is true as regards sexual 'morality'. Forcing people into closets of various shapes and sizes guarantees that they'll find alternative and sometimes unsavory ways of taking up the slack. One of the reasons that prostitution exists is that consensual sex between adults is still, even now, frowned on outside of certain, very limited situations.
Sex through history has rarely been fully consensual. The argument against boffing a willing fourteen year old holds true for an employed husband and his wife who depends on him for financial support. If you're not truly independent, how can you fully consent? How many people are fully independent and able to exercise perfect and complete free will? Not that many. Prostitution, like most sexual activity, is no better than quasi-consensual.

That's pretty standard business practice. Just because a purchase seems okay doesn't mean that there isn't sub-acute damage that will cause a failure in a month. Jason accepts liability for the possible hidden damage when he accepts the delivery in that condition. On a $5,000 camera, it would be prudent to return the improperly packed item to be inspected and to send him a new, properly packed one.

As an arbiter, there is something to be said for playing nice in your debut post. If you're nasty and you have no posting history, you don't win much respect. Also, if you're going to call someone an asshole, just use the word. If you're rude, asterisks won't make it polite. And if you're polite, typing it out won't make it rude.

In good faith, the customer shouldn't bash them with a negative review since the company is offering to fix whatever he's complaining for, right?
Wrong. Re (again) view (look). Another look at what happened. He described his experience. That's all. If I read a review, I want to know what happened, not a revised picture of what happened after money changed hands. Most companies prefer to pay off problems rather than provide adequate service in the first place, on the assumption that most customers are too meek or lazy to do anything. Posting a negative review when you're treated like crap is a public service to other potential customers. He owes the camera store nothing.

Why not just go to Disneyland or the Opera where you would have a good time? If I just loved everything all the time, I would be perfectly happy. That's a good thing. Between August 2004 and March 2006 TfL's Information Access and Compliance Team received 436 requests from the police for Oyster card information. Of these, 409 requests were granted and the data were released to the police. Additionally, in 2008 news reports indicated that the security services were seeking access to all Oyster card data for the purposes of counter-terrorism. Such access is currently not provided to the security services.

Comic books/graphic novels are a great example of possible remixes of a text only book.

Not my country; not my problem. You start making other countries' problems your own and you end up with Vietnams and Iraqs.
And when you don't do anything, you end up with Nazi occupied France, Poland, etc. It is possible to distinguish between right and wrong. China annexed Tibet fifty years ago, is raping its resources and committing genocide against its people. There is, believe it or not, a whole range of alternatives that lie between nuking Beijing and colluding fully with China's totalitarian regime. The US and the EU should not send any dignitaries to the Olympics and should revoke all trade policies that are favorable to China. This is the biggest cultural and ideological war in human history. If we lose it, human rights will vanish for the foreseeable future.

It just seems likely that we would have evolved to band together with our den-siblings to drive interlopers from the water hole. Are gorillas fascists? Or lions? It's a survival strategy which has become antithetical to survival on the global scale. If aggressive behavior favors the survival of the individual but also favors the extinction of the group, what happens? we're in a war between smart people and narrow-minded people
Or, to put it another way, between people who are too lazy or have never been taught how to think and those who have the ability and willingness to do so.

How can anyone dare assert that religion is less poisonous to humanity than any other form of fanaticism?
Like the one that you appear to espouse, wherein people aren't allowed to believe what they choose?

which did not figure out the patent violation at the time of granting that patent
I gather that in the last few decades, most patents are bogus. Some are spurious, others have already been patented, some are squatters. They just rubber stamp them to get the fee. And government departments and officials are commonly immune to legal action.

A quarter of the US was stolen from Mexico. The border is an artificial construct which is destined to fail. The southwestern US is a Latin American country. Beat your head against the wall until you're unconscious, but it won't change that fundamental fact of US life. I, for one, am grateful to get away from the Anglo-Teutonic culture that dominates so much of the US.

The caraway one? That was a bad drunk! Drank a whole bottle after my best friend's funeral. We had a U-Haul in front of the house because we were moving the next day. We were so hungover, that we had to call a mover to move us. Literally move us. We couldn't even walk. I still can't get near anything with caraway in it.

Now that you've honed your oratory skills, why don't you come back to the world of the living? You've been trapped in this thread for a week. There's a whole world of penis thieves and whorehouses with stuffed polar bears waiting out there.

Everclear is just ethanol. Arak is filtered through greasy old farm equipment. And it's anise flavored. The name actually means 'sweat' in Arabic. Imagine Ouzo's evil twin.
