I think it's sensible to support the *artist* if you like what he does. I think the companies are just after money. We're seeing more decentralization these days though, and if people stopped buying Britney Spears, many of these companies would lose money the other way, if you get what I mean.

I don't think it's so far off; secular humanism is easily one of the biggest and most fierce religions of our time, despite the fact that it denies its Christian roots (morality around the individual). Dawkins & co don't impress me much, they seem to be reactionaries who misunderstand the purpose of religion/spirituality and then attack it on that basis.
