Dinotopia artist sketches Jehovah's Witnesses who come to his door

June 5, 2008 6:30am

Right. You know what, never mind, Xopher, it's not accidental ignorance that's the problem here. I already said what my 'atheist religion' is.

Just because a little discussion took place on BB and a couple of you decided that atheism actually is a religion (despite definitions to the contrary) doesn't make it one.

You can be an atheist and a Buddhist, yes. Then Buddhism is your religion. Atheism has no dogma, nothing religious at all. The only thing qualifying you as an atheist is if you say, "there is no god". And atheism isn't a prerequisite for being Buddhist, so it's not your "atheist religion", sorry.

You could even go so far as to say that secular humanism is your religion. Still not atheism. Fact is, atheism is not a religion. Redefine if you like, it matters not.

Try not to take this personally, but you're just a figment of my imagination. I knew that I shouldn't have eaten that lime pickle before my nap.

I don't, I will try my hardest to ensure the continued eating of lime pickles before naps though.

atheist religion

Mmmm. Goes nicely with my hobby as a non-stamp collector. And the hair colour "bald"...

Dear sir, as a fellow atheistic sort, that condescending, intolerant manner is rather repulsive. I'm a religious type. I know plenty of religious types who focus on being good to others as part of their religion.
You have some contradictions there.

Anyway, you're probably right, I was being condescending and intolerant, just like the people above when they slam JWs for their faith, yet cannot see the silliness of their own.

If people start laughing at people because of their silly beliefs, I am then under no obligation to "be nice" about their silly beliefs.

Sorry to break it to you, but there is no god.

And for those religious types who think that the JWs are "cultish", you're just a slightly more accepted cult, garnering yourselves the label "religion".

MacBook Air sharp enough to slice bread, bone, human flesh

2nd No, the MacBook Air can not cut bread, at least it can not touch. It is the photo above is written as a "dramatized presentation," a scherzhafte exaggeration of actual sharp MacBook Air

@Bitwiseshiftleft:
True, but it's fixed now, and it never made it into Debian stable (since the bug crept in in 2006).

My point was that once a problem is found, it is fixed pretty quickly (it was a very serious bug, but updates came down the tubes pronto once it was discovered).

Good luck to them, I run Linux.

Not that I'm naive enough to think that Linux is impermeable, but rather I think that the Linux hackers will be able to move quicker than Windows in countering their suite of tools. Double entendre intended.

Derren Brown live in London's West End -- astounding!

May 12, 2008 6:24am

I think Derren Brown is a gifted performer, but I don't believe that he is doing what he claims to be doing.

I'm not alone in this, read this great article by Simon Singh:
I'll bet £1,000 that Derren can't read my mind

I guess so.

I wasn't trying to beat a dead horse, wasn't aware it had been discussed so frequently.

Interesting anti-graffiti sign

March 11, 2008 1:50am

"Eh"'s idea that property isn't being destroyed when it has been spraypainted is ludicrous.

If the owner of the now graffitied wall doesn't want the "art" on his property he has to pay for cleaning materials and possibly a tin of paint to restore his property to its original condition.

It is a very big "fuck you" when someone shows no consideration for another person's property. Or I suppose you wouldn't mind if we came over to your place and drew penes all over your walls?

Unknowing twins married

January 13, 2008 1:39am

If this story is true, it's not like they are really brother and sister. I think that if two kids who were not genetically related but brought up as brother and sister got married it would be more "disgusting". Being a sibling is more than mere DNA.

So what? They share a bunch of chromosomes. Like the one poster said, they should just run with it. They weren't raised as family, they are not, for all intents and purposes, family.

Not if you're using a different library manager. Like Amarok.
