i'm not sure how i feel about food being a stand-in for people. it essentializes the diverse cultures being represented in a way that centers an american bias/perspectives. for example, the bagels comment someone made earlier.

it also neutralizes the true human trauma of military violence into a harmless display, despite the screaming voices and artillery sounds. i actually think this aspect of the piece is BRILLIANT, however.

food is an interesting choice, because it gets at a basic eleemnt--we all eat. this might take various forms, but in the end, food is just food. hm. a lot to think about in this piece, though it seems to want to be taken as a fluff piece.
