Commented on The Bridge-Building Centipede Truck
When I saw the title of "bridge-building" I immediately thought of the amazing machines used by the UK military; the portable bridges. There is a proper name for them which I can't remember, but essentially it's a great flat bridge...

Commented on Cigarette case-style clock winds self with atmospheric pressure
Wasn't this idea first patented in the 1800s? Part of the perpetual motion fad of that time? (Yes, I realise this technically isn't perpetual motion, but still)....

Commented on White Mischief steampunk variety night returns to London, May 23
Personally, I prefer the Modern Times Club, which is like this but for the 1920/30s (Art Deco, etc). And everyone there tends to be immaculately dressed. There's no formal dress code, but if you roll up in your belted chinos...

Commented on Spanish Flu of 1918: how bad was it?
It was also in the days before a virus could be carried from Australia to the States in a day. There are also more people living today and the cities are more densely packed than ever. A virus today could...

So, hang on... Blizzard and the rest ought to scrap their EULAs and let players run scripts and other mods to cheat because it's "Freedom of Expression"? Bad call. Or am I missing the point?...

Commented on Court turns down challenge to jury's use of Bible

Commented on Submarine cable maps: 1901 v. 2009
@6 Well, in the old map it's definitely centred on England, because that's where all the cable came from; it was designed to connect the Empire. And the first transatlantic cable was laid by one of Brunel's ships, I think....

@ SCHMOD #14 I don't know, but with large quantities of chemicals like that, the white gloves and a knowledge of science, it's more likely than not he's a terrorist. Remember: if you suspect it, report it....
