Commented on Solution to AIG bonuses: a 90% tax on people who receive them
We brought much of this on ourselves. The sad fact is that most of these asshats are suspected of criminal wrongdoing but our government is reticent, perhaps down-right powerless to investigate since our government is now their largest shareholder....

Commented on Solution to AIG bonuses: a 90% tax on people who receive them
A token civil measure where extraordinary punitive recourse is required. People like these execs will only continue to drive america on a course toward economic extinction unless their livelihoods, not just their bonuses, are put on the line....

Commented on Ian McDonald's "Cyberabad Days" -- short stories in 2047 India that blend technology with spirituality, love, sex, war and humanity
@FLYING MONKEY: I'll just have to blind nil bet that you're right on Murakami Haruki, having only attempted one of his books in my reading, and failing at that because of my aversion to the stilted prose lost/found in translation....

@Flying Monkey: It's hard to neatly cram Mitchell into the hardcore British SF box, but you could say the same of Jim Crace (another limey) or Margaret Atwood (a Canuck, so British by proxy, much like Cory). And I thought...
