Commented on Anonymous declares war on copyright enforcers, demands more lawsuits against P2P services
Am I the only one who finds it blisteringly ironic that the video's been pulled from YouTube? Ho hum....

Commented on Enigma: Derren Brown's new live mentalism and magic show on UK tour
I am disgusted with the new Battlestar Galactica. It turns out that the spaceships weren't real, they were actually some kind of computer-generated fakery. Even the characters in the show were apparently played by actors! They lied to us, people....

Commented on Hugo ballot is up -- Little Brother up for best novel!
I've got no idea how I'm gonna choose on this one. The line-up is just incredible this year, and they're all absolutely thumping good books in utterly different ways. Congratulations, Cory - well deserved and I wish you the best...

Commented on fMRI humor ar ar ar
Heh. My cohort Alex wrote a volume viewer a while back - I realised I'd gotten inured to looking at brains while noshing on a nice beef stew peering at someone's medulla oblongata....

Commented on Ed Boyden, brain hacker
You mean the things that make me weak and strange can be engineered away? (Couldn't resist the quote!)...

Commented on Carrie Fisher's Wishful Drinking
Aww. That cover just makes me want to give her a hug and tell her it'll be alright. Big softie I guess....

Commented on Apple sez jailbreaking iPhones is illegal and should be banned
I've been saying for ages I'm gonna bin my iPhone when my contract lapses. If this goes through, I'm binning it that day and Apple can bite my arse. This really makes me furious....

Commented on Robot model kit: Chubu 01
Does the horn go "Wort wort wort!" 'Cause it really looks like a Covenant Elite to me....
-
Commented on Little digital video camera
Personally, I think it's not bad. The more little lights we can turn on in dark corners, the less governments and other organisations can get away with. Wherever cameras are banned, then sooner or later someone's going to be behaving...

Commented on Man who set up alternate email for White House dies in plane crash
90% of me is recalling an old KGB joke: "Do you know how to prove that the CIA didn't kill Kennedy?" "Niet." "Well, he's dead, isn't he?" The other 10% if me is in OMFG They Wouldn't Be That Obvious...

Commented on Apple gets into the book-banning business
I failed my Saving Throw vs. Shiny with the iPhone, I confess. However, it's been a heartbreaking process, very similar to when I got a PSP: A running firefight with the people who built it to get it to do...
-
Commented on Apple to Mac owners: throw away your monitor if Hollywood says so
I've just hugged my Dell 30" and told it I love it very much. I have also petted all my PCs and told them they're good girls, and that despite the Amiga 4000 that sneers at them from the end...

Commented on Spider Robinson's "Very Hard Choices" -- rigorous, science fictional look at telepathy's problems

Commented on New Democrat New Danger
Well, in fairness he did turn out to be a bit of a nipple. Blindly following Dubya into the Gulf, democratising education 'til it's little more than a check-box and generally turning the country into a nannystate cesspit. So despite...

Commented on Sleeping Beauty Blu-Ray requires viewers to agree to 57 page EULA
You blew Imagineering out. If I had heroes, you'd be one of 'em Cory. Disney's badly broken, and still pretty powerful. It's a symptom rather than being the disease: the disease is creatives being in a cancerous brainspace where they're...

Commented on Principles for sound Internet policy: Internet for Everyone
Back in '93, I had a Moment of Awe. I realised there was a planet-spanning network, through which the subject was no longer the object. It hit me like a tonne of bricks, like reading Clarke's passage: 31st December, 2000....

Commented on EFF sues Cheney, Bush, and the NSA to stop illegal wiretapping
Oh man, that's made my heart swell right up. That's just beautiful. I don't rate their chances, and it's gonna be akin to Scientology's "Fair Game" rule from the Gubment.... but that's taking the fight to the enemy, make no...

Commented on Britain spends more on cops and locks up more people than any other developed nation
Hum. I found out quite a bit as a result of being rather nastily assaulted by a gang of kids a few weeks back. Reading has a population of about 200,000 on the books (so probably closer a quarter mil)....

Commented on Alaska job fair uses Cory Doctorow/XKCD cosplayer for ads?
That gave my gigglebox a good prod. And yes, GeekDadCanada, I would too. No offence, Cory....

Commented on Welcome to the old school: Commodore to sell PDA

Commented on Make-believe police in UK have power to issue on-the-spot fines
Anything to not spend money on a real police-force, doing actual policey things. This is why I'm heading to the US to go jobhunting in a couple of weeks. Wish me luck, it's gone bloody mad here in the Uck....
