Commented on MSI NetTop D130 is just so Wall Street
You don't need a TV tuner. TV is dead. Streaming is the future. Did you see the Boxee post yesterday? All it has to do is connect to the internet or pull files off a NAS. If it can handle...

Has nobody ever heard of tempered glass? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tempered_glass...

Commented on Garbage table made from baby-carriage, glass and suction cups
Boing Boing needs a spinoff site just for coffee tables. I've got one to contribute....
-
Commented on CES: Boxee ready for the big time
I recently got in on the Boxee alpha and have been playing with it. It's everything I was looking for in media center software. The ability to stream the Daily Show/Colbert Report and Netflix on top of managing a library...

Commented on All LaserDisc players go to heaven
I had that Dune laserdisc. The new DVD has the extended cut now. What was even better was the Criterion Collection edition of Aliens with extra footage and tons of extras. The extras were amazing things back when everyone else...

Commented on House prices plummet in Detroit, Indianapolis, Cleveland
Why don't we bus a bunch of homeless up there and let them squat the properties? Just turn all of Detroit into a (formerly) homeless metropolis....
-
Commented on Mind hack: turn down the TV volume
And all the "I don't watch TV" snobs come out of the woodwork... Bad is bad no mater what the medium. At least bad TV wastes less time than a bad book....

Commented on Pop-up mini-shelter for homeless people
So we've reinvented the tent for homeless people? Why not take the resources used to develop and produce this over-specialized thing and buy ten times as many tents? Tents are man-portable. The more expensive ones can survive in extreme environments...

Commented on The ci desk mobile workstation is chic, probably useless
It's as if the designer had never heard of a lever. What's to keep this thing from dumping your laptop when you put a bit too much weight on the table?...
-
Commented on Download: Songbird music player hits 1.0
Why does open source stuff always have to be a copy? I looked at the screen shot and thought it was iTunes at first. Why go to the trouble to make an application that's supposed to not be like iTunes...

Commented on Passwords suck
What about a pass phrase? The system has the entire phrase, but when challenging a user, part of the phrase is presented and the user must fill in the blanks. The blanks are randomly chosen at the time of the...

Commented on Netbook of the Day: Epson Endeavor Na01 mini
Is anybody actually buying these things? Maybe I don't get out enough, but I've yet to see any model of netbook in the wild....
-
Commented on J.J. Abrams' Star Trek gets its Enterprise
What's wrong with mini-skirts? More skirts mean I'm less likely to be annoyed by what Abrams has done to Trek....
-
Commented on Behold, the first screenshot of the Windows 7 desktop
Looks like an improvement, but the UI designers seem to be a little outline-happy. Everything doesn't need a box drawn around it. Whitespace is your friend....
-
Commented on Apple says netbooks are "nascent category" but they have "interesting ideas"
I think the reason Apple doesn't enter the category is because too many people are drawn to netbooks because of price. If Apple did make something in the category it would be $500 and not $300 so everyone would bitch...

Commented on µTorrent for Mac alpha leaked to Pirate Bay
Maybe you just need to configure the ports on your router better? Also, some trackers like particular features turned on or off that can effect speed. I've had no problems with Transmission and never found it slower than Azureus....

Commented on Tritium zipper pulls
Huh? If tritium isn't legal in the US, someone needs to tell Trijicon. http://trijicon.com/...

Commented on Microsoft's "I'm a PC" ad
Don't knock Justin Long. Those Apple ads are a fat paycheck so he can pursue his true acting calling- appearing in stoner comedies. He's no NPH, but his skills are a gift to high people everywhere....

Commented on Plastic Logic "Kindle killer" e-Reader seems too large for easy stowing

Commented on Joel's next keyboard: Crayola EZ Type
The arrangement of the keys on this kiddie board is actually more ergonomic than the throwback layout of a regular board. It just needs to be split and angled a bit. What's cocked up is that in the 21st century...
