Commented on Unparliamentary Language
The government (meaning the Prime Minister's coalition) makes a lot of the policy outside of actual chambers, and so there's not a lot of debating during the sessions. Less important representatives have the chance to debate then - like this...

Commented on Just look at this awesome anti-banana-ripening bag.
Just look at how this segment lost its funny after the fifth time or so....

Commented on T-shirt design contest for Fender
Oh, wow, a Squier. Next time I'm an 8th grader who doesn't play guitar, I will get excited about that prize....
-
Commented on Bob Dylan mistaken for hobo, 40 years after Woodstock
Decades ago, Dylan was mistaken for a beatnik in Minneapolis before he was famous. A printman at the company my dad worked for would get drunk and rough him up every Saturday night while he performed on the street. Sounds...

Commented on US military blows up piles of poppy seeds to win the “hearts of minds” of Afghan citizens
I need morphine to stop the headache this story gave me. Oh, the irony that those very same poppies could have fixed my problem....

Commented on Licensed to Drink
As soon as you tell high schoolers and college kids they can't drink alcohol, they want to do it more. Then they are secretive, ill-informed, and dangerous about it. Then they turn 21 and go hog-wild. It's a pathetic system....
-
Commented on Photos of food and their sugar-cube equivalent
Do they include the sugar cube equivalent of high fructose corn syrup? A whole lot of those products probably have sugar and HFCS....
-
Commented on "The Second Coming of the silos will be abstract mysterious"
if you could figure out the acoustics, you could stick a platform higher up in the silo for a music venue. Fans could be on the ground level or other platforms. It would be a great novelty venue....

-
Commented on Lawrence Lessig on McCain and the Keating Five scandal
And what happened in the end for John McCain? It was concluded by the Senate Ethics Committee that he did not deliver any special favors to Lincoln. In fact, Keating called McCain a wimp behind his back and McCain quickly...

Commented on Why C-Span is the best place to watch the debates
I attend Washington University in St Louis, and for my money, watching the debate from inside the debate hall was the best place to see it from. Plus, the hospitality tent was amazing!...

Commented on Obama bumper-stickers for every state project now complete
Only about a third of these bumper stickers aren't horribly put together. Look at the one from Minnesota for example - SUCKS!...
-
Commented on Does the US military have some super new capability?
@#27 You mention Kim Jong Il has been coincidentally not seen lately. That tripped my mind on this: After 40 YEARS of trying to kill Fidel Castro, he just kind of faded away after some kind of surgery. Surgery? Maybe...

Commented on Traffic cams bring in $250,000/month in a town with a $4.6 million budget
In Minneapolis they installed those ticket cameras a few years ago. They were actually aimed at red light running, but same type of deal. Someone sued over them and they were eventually ruled unconstitutional by the state supreme court....
-
Commented on Cable car machinery photos
I'm glad they saved their system, here in Minneapolis, they got rid of them in favor of buses. Now, there is effectively no public transit here....

-
Commented on Fun-O-Meter vending machine update
reading this guy's blog, it sure seems like boing boing and wooster collective should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for not giving this contraption's unknown maker a chance to report on it first, whenever he damn well feels like it....

Commented on St. Louis cops turn forfeiture policy into free car rental service
I go to school in STL (well, campus bumps up again the city itself, so I'm out of SLPD's jurisdiction) and it doesn't stop there. STL needs a ton of help and investment. We've learned the cops are crooked. The...
-
Commented on Pedo-crazed parents call father a "pervert" for photographing his own children at a park
Next thing I know, when I'm at work at a coffee shop and give a corn-syrupy "coffee" drink to a pubescent girl and smile as I do so, I'll probably be slapped by a Skim Vanilla Latte drinking woman who...

Commented on As price of fuel soars, so does a dirigible renaissance?
This whole idea of attaching a hotel to the zeppelin is SO reminiscent of R Buckminster Fuller's proposal of heating the air in very large domes a few degrees so you could fill them with cities and float them in...

Commented on Bananas are atheist nightmares!
@ #6: Very true. How strange is it that an ultra-religious clip like this could also double as homoerotic.?...
