I have some vague idea we were told that's the why it works most places. I honestly think this relates more to funded research work that you might do while in college, not the homework assignments. Good grief, this thread is still going? Anonymous @98 et al, a lazy or disengaged professor would be one who gives no homework at all, and bases the student's grade on something easy to grade, like a multiple choice examination. Of course, the only students who will learn in such a situation are the ones who could have done it on their own, without the class, in the first place.
