Commented on Botfly maggot removed from head -- the video
we took one out of my rabbit once, only afterwards learning that, if damaged, the larva will release a powerful neurotoxin. I seem to find lots of small animals with these things in them. 2 cats, a rabbit and a...

Commented on Crazy Rasberry Ants on the rampage
We are witnessing an astounding chapter of insect evolution! Here's a link to a short piece I wrote about the emerging and fascinating phenomena of ant supercolonies: http://bugfactory.blogspot.com/2006/05/ant-supercolonies.html...

Commented on Was 1971 the best year to be born a geek?
Also born in 71, and got to see a double bill of Aliens and The Fly at the drive in. I'll never forget the splendour of the crashing drop ship!...

Commented on Trimpin: The Sound of Invention
I had the pleasure of meeting him when he put up his midi controlled toy piano installation here in Vancouver BC. He's a most unpretentious guy, and easy to talk to. His installation was driving some people nuts, which was...

Commented on AT-AT anatomy tee
I think the real fans know their AT AT anatomy, but goodness, if an AT AT with a skeleton messes the nerds up these days, what would they do if I told them the entire Star Wars universe was imaginary...

Commented on Dolphins blowing rings
I've watched balugas do this trick here in Vancouver. They have a different style of creating the bubble rings, but the play is similar. I was mesmerized when I first noticed this playful behaviour....

looks like we're on the same page, I posted about Jud's trilobites Yesterday at Triloblog: http://triloblog.blogspot.com/2009/01/jud-turners-cybernetic-trilobites.html Jud was very gracious about allowing me to use his images, and said he liked the triloblog. I love Trilobites!...

Commented on Surfrider's "Catch of the Day"
....mmmm, Coney Island white fish! But seriously, shouldn't this project be targeting big name grocery chains, rather than "local farmer's markets"? I think the larger stores fuel the industrialized depletion of the oceans, and the smaller markets are often offering...

Commented on Spark plug bug
I quite like this. It reminds me of a metal bug brought to me from Africa that was made from a bug spay can. It's also a bit like my fake robot bug made with a whip cream can lid,...

Commented on Maggot cheese that tries to eat your eyes
Soupisgoodfood, I think they like a warm place to grow, and would skip the cheese. Don't ever google images of botfly larvae like I did. As for the maggoty cheese, something about the jumping is truly revolting.......
-
Commented on Maggot cheese that tries to eat your eyes
Soupisgoodfood- there are botfly larvae that gestate inside a living host... I've eaten live meal worms and enjoyed them, but I'll skip this cheese if it's ever offered to me....
