Commented on CNN ends a web news experiment
@#1 - didn't know Rupert Murdoch read Boing Boing!...
-
Commented on Humanizing Psystar
I kinda view it like this - people don't like being told by printer companies that they must use their cartridges...they buy refill packs etc & do it themselves, despite the companies forbidding it. Substitute printer with OSX and cartridges...

Commented on Anatomical vegetarian ad
It's very clever. However, I've just finished reading Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, and as everyone knows, cauliflowers are vegetable brains........not lungs....

Commented on Pratchett's "Unseen Academicals" - a gift to Discworld lovers and an argument for the importance of sport
@ Darren Garrison - the film industry has been mentioned in a couple of subsequent books, and I think even in UU. I have to say, I preferred Vetinari when he was more a Medici kind of ruler...the last few...

Commented on Pratchett's "Unseen Academicals" - a gift to Discworld lovers and an argument for the importance of sport
I liked it (I've never read a Pratchett that I've disliked) and it had a few laugh-out-loud-on-the-train moments, but what really stuck out was the whole premise was a city-wide obsession with this game...which had never been mentioned in any...

Commented on Bikini Leia and stunt double catch some rays

-
Commented on Silent film re-edit of so-called "drunkest guy ever" surveillance video
I'm still going for the mixing booze & weed theory. Either way, regardless of whether you think the incident is amusing or not, this video is inspired....
-
Commented on Comic strip explains World Wars in five minutes
It's not "propaganda". It's "humour". It's history in the same sense that Hark! A Vagrant! is history - broad strokes with jokes in between....
-
Commented on Brit ISP TalkTalk shows why cutting people off because a record exec says they're file-sharers is dumb
@ boyfinley - take those who live in flats. I can see about half a dozen unencrypted or poorly encrypted wifi signals of various strength. I don't bother with them as I obviously have my own connection, but if I...

Commented on Man spent $7 million in bogus currency made with cheap inkjet printer
Ah, people laughed at us in Australia when we introduced plastic notes, but at least this kind of thing couldn't happen here as a result. At least, not until these printers hit the market......

Commented on Poor design-choices in the Star Wars universe
@ Ill Lich #46 - no, the TIE Fighter doesn't have lightspeed capabilities, so...oh God. I'll just move over here and never know the touch of a woman....

Commented on Burning Man Responds to EFF over fair use and photo rights attack
On the whole, I don't see the BM people being dickish about this. They're not trying to control people's photos per se - just prevent exploitation of photos of the event, similar to what Virgin did a while back using...

Commented on How to avoid ads in Gmail (or not)
@Manicbassman - Firefox 3.5 and Adblock Plus equals zero Gmail ads. Just checked it, there's a line saying "About these links" but nothing else....

Commented on Record company embraces use of its music in YouTube wedding video, makes money
@ Dorothy Haskin - way to miss the point. Doesn't matter who sang the song, this particular post is about record companies recognising that they can make money from their music being on Youtube, rather than just issuing takedowns. Not...
-
Commented on GPS jammer plugs into cigarette lighter
@#1 - I may be wrong, but as speakers in cars are wired, I don't think you could jam the sound. Unless you developed some kind of Cone of Silence, in which case I wish to subscribe to your newsletter....
-
Commented on Afghanistan: US discouraged inquiry into mass killing of Taliban prisoners
@#1 - link requires a subscription to Harper's. A shame, sounded interesting....

Commented on Australian govt memo, 1968: Women become "spinster battle axes;" "men usually mellow"
Bearing in mind the hue & cry that male politicians raise whenever a woman breastfeeds in Parliament, I'd say we haven't advanced too far.......

Commented on Roman Cat Sanctuary
I've been there. A lot of the Roman monuments felt...exploited...either by the tourist market, or by long dead popes (The Pantheon is a perfect example of this). The cat santuary? Grass covered, sub-street level excavations with traffic on all 4...
