Commented on How Science Reporting Works
Unfortunately, this is an awful lot like how scientists write their conclusion sections, too....
-
Commented on Conversation between Douglas Rushkoff and Kurt Andersen
Am I the only one who thinks Rushkoff is a little too out there? His discussions are interesting but also generally very, well, fantasy-world....
-
Commented on Weekend Watching: more Instant Watching picks, and a bonus British invasion
I watched Visioneers earlier today after it was recommended on maxfun, and loved it. There's some very dark comedy in there....
-
Commented on Miniature Bottle story for Significant Objects
Aren't we ruining the project by linking to it? Seems like now it's got that extra layer of audience who are into the idea of the project itself...
-
Commented on Stella Im Hultberg's Memento Mori gallery show in LA
For a while, Stella's work was very much aligned with the rest of the east/west mix pop surrealists (like Sol and Kawasaki), but it's getting much more distinct. Glad to see more of her stuff. There's lots of texture in...

Commented on Scott Pilgrim: genius comic about a slacker who has to fight his love's seven evil ex-boyfriends: sweet, funny and great!
I can't recommend this enough. The nerd-humor runs deep, but isn't done in a "HA HA GET IT REMEMBER THAT THING?" cheap nostalgia style. Very good stuff....

Commented on Merlin Mann on Getting Creative Things Done
Maximum Fun is one of the best communities. Merlin Mann is simultaneously hilarious and interesting. Also stop bellyaching about "first annual". It just means they want to make it a yearly thing. Wah wah!...

Commented on Iranian media mistakes Kasper Hauser comedy group as a "virtual reality 'terrorist' group," of "cyber hackers"
@9, @11, Have you read anything by Kasper Hauser? They're pretty great. They do good comedy! I highly recommend their stuff....

Commented on E309: Rez creator, Ubisoft partnering on 'Project Eden'

Commented on Preview of Audrey Kawasaki's upcoming solo show in Tokyo
@7, Audrey's recent work especially has been a lot of 'image of the girl re-tread', Amy's actually been providing some interesting details on what stories and mythology she's pulling from....
-
Commented on Preview of Audrey Kawasaki's upcoming solo show in Tokyo
@5, Amy Sol's stuff is actually pretty different in style and mood, except for the 'paint on wood' bit. Sol tends to make wispy, dreamy stuff. Kawasaki does more unsettling or sensual images....

Commented on Preview of Audrey Kawasaki's upcoming solo show in Tokyo
I love Audrey's stuff. The giant breasts on Daydream are a little strange and uncharacteristic for her work. Nagisa and The Way She Likes are both pretty great. All in all a pretty cool show. Arrestedmotion has a cool interview...

Commented on Is Six Days in Fallujah too soon?
I think this is a great project. Like any other form of expression, games should be allowed to hit on serious topics in many ways – if this is pulled off documentary-style successfully, it could be a great precedent....

Commented on The Big Takeover: A Must-Read from Rolling Stone's Matt Taibbi

Commented on Shepard Fairey on the Obama Photo Controversy
I want to know where I find the photoshop filter that turns images into well-composed pieces. http://arrestedmotion.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/3370988139_01caeb5d75.jpg That "photoshop filter" argument is pretty bogus. Even if you don't dig his art (and, honestly, he's been very hit or miss recently),...

Hlllyh is an amazing album. Much love for The Mae Shi -- got hooked after I heard "Run to Your Grave"....
-
Commented on Gimme Indie Game: Runhello's Jumpman
I wish the control scheme was a little tighter. The 'slide' that the character has leads to a lot of frustrating deaths. The 'hope' level is driving me insane. Wonderful game!...

Commented on Kevin Kelly: "The Unabomber Was Right"
Why can't the escalation be transformative rather than apocalyptic?...
