kangaroos are pests (as in http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/pest = nuisance animal, destroys gardens) because European settlers in Australia have drilled bores (aka artesian wells) and brought more water to the surface, turning semi desert into cropland. The new greenery (grass, wheat, corn etc) has fed the roo's 10 fold increase in population since the 1800's. Despite commercial harvesting, government authorised culling and private hunting by most farmers who find them among their crops, kangaroo numbers continue to grow (see: http://www.kangaroo-industry.asn.au/morinfo/BACKGR1.HTM). with all these animals that are regarded as pests i wish rather than hunting and killing them that we could just spay/neuter them. especially for hunters who don't eat the meat, this could be a new form of legal hunting with over-populated species, they could shoot them with some kind of tranquilizer gun to give them the hunting experience and it is my understanding that males are pretty easy for the novice to neuter. and thus a new sport, less gruesome, and rainbows all around....
