Commented on Steampunk terrarium
Yes, we know what Victorian terrariums look like. But what would they look like, given an alternate history of vast airship fleets, Martian tripod attacks, raygun v. zombie fights on lost continents, and a visual aesthetic unlike those found in...
-
Commented on The Matrix in LEGO
I like the fact that they recreated the original movie goof, with the missing guns at Neo's feet during bullet time....
-
Commented on The decline of civilization symbolized in a modern light socket
If the wires were a few centimeters longer, one wouldn't have noticed that civilization was in decline. Also of note, the insulation quality has improved over time, meaning that these wires would last much longer than the ones being replaced....
-
Commented on Car Finder app for iPhone
The iphone comes with GPS/w maps, a camera, a notepad and a voice memo function. If those standard tools don't help you find your car, perhaps you have greater problems....
-
Commented on Visualizing up to ten dimensions
This video is a beautiful, symmetrical piece of science fiction. This is how I picture most time travel SF stores. The Star Trek reboot doesn't erase the previous series, it just takes place in an alternate time line. You have...
-
Commented on Computopia, a circa 1969 vision of the future from Japan
I like that one kid is getting whacked while raising his hand. Questions our counter productive. *WHAM*...
-
Commented on Giant World of Warcraft tankard
This looks really cool. It is nice when brands realize you want things from the book/movie/tv show rather than things with the name of the book/movie/tv show printed on it. On a 'housekeeping' note, is Boing Boing Gadgets being phased...

Commented on WTF is "Dairy Drink?"
It could be an attempt to recreate the flavour of the milk from the bottom of the cereal bowl. Even non-sugary cereals leave a flavourful melange at the bottom, as the milk has picked up some of the starches(?) from...

Commented on Soda pop bottle caps
@20 Really? Never used that in western Canada. Maybe in a news report: "increased tax on soft drinks". But not in conversation. "Can I get you something to drink while I'm up?" "Yes a soft drink, please" Never heard it....

Commented on Soda pop bottle caps
"soft drink" would get you some odd looks in Canada. That's on par with "carbonated beverage", accurate, but no one talks like that. For inquiring minds, see the pop/soda map: http://popvssoda.com:2998/...
-
Commented on Parts Nebula: a parts-tracking inventory system for makers
Now makers, hobbyists and tinkerers can experience the joys of MRP database maintenance, bill of materials creation, and documentation control. "Ceci n'est pas un BOM"?...

Commented on Dreamworks to make ViewMaster: The Movie
Movie aside, moving the reel to the top was probably the best move ever in classic toy re-design....
-
Commented on Corrupted files for sale to students to buy extra time
This is why I get all my students to submit their projects in the form of interpretive dance. It's the most popular chemistry class in the curriculum....

Commented on Duchamp's bicycle wheel back on the street
Can we all agree that the wheel is most certainly not a pipe?...
-
Commented on Poop on the moon, and how to protect it
Basic tools, shoes, feces and gold ornaments: The prime archaeological finds of any human civilization. Based on personal experience, I would think it would be all ballpoint pens, left-hand gloves and sunglasses....

Commented on Notes From the Underground
Thanks a lot. I've spent all afternoon on forgotten-ny.com. Way to help productivity, with your awesome blogging....
-
Commented on Rings made from crayons
@#3 "I never understood the mentality that a novel idea can somehow transform $2 worth of materials into something worth several hundred percent more" Really? Is the value of a painting dependent on how much paint was used? Is the...

Commented on Janet Klein plays "Tonight You Belong To Me" on ukulele
A community that has tired of seeing women play the ukulele has tired of life itself....
-
Commented on Wine-casks turned into hotel rooms
Bah! I could build those with some cinder blocks and some planks from a barn. And what about the wine outgassing?...
-
Commented on Many Restaurants Remain Oblivious to Mobile Web
I can't believe people can defend such a poor business practise. It's not a matter of putting down the phone and walking around, or a matter of calling rather than using the website. If they put up a site that...

Commented on Review: A day with Asus' Eee Top
I really like the summary call-out boxes for these reviews. Keep up the excellent work. I'm still looking for a netbook myself but if the trend continues, the right one for me should come out soon....

Commented on Verizon doesn't understand simple math
@37 Free ice cream is free. Offering Rocky Road for the first time is great, no matter how many other places offered it first. Re-launching the "Have you heard about Rocky Road" campaign every couple of months is pointless and...
-
Commented on Verizon doesn't understand simple math
This may be an old story, but it was also posted to boingboing in February. I'm not complaining about the flavour of the free ice cream, but I would like to make a small request. Would it be too much...

Commented on Synchronized electric face stimulus music
Which Philip K Dick story are we living in today? Also, this may be the litmus test for true friendship. "Can I stimulate your face with electrodes?" Any friends of yours that would let you do this to them?...
-
Commented on Video explains what a capacitor is and how to make one
Bill Beatty's water analogy is more complicated than it really needs to be. The simple parallel plate capacitor, ignoring dielectrics, is a good place to start in wrapping your head around the capacitors properties. There may be more or less...

Commented on Cult of Done Manifesto: a name for my disease

Commented on Sending your video camera around the sushi conveyor
Some people can't tell the difference between surveillance and whimsy. This this a wonderful thing. It gets the Haggis Seal of approval....
