In the early '80s when I was in my early teens, a few of the burnouts from my school (i.e., potheads, no pun intended) broke into and explored a nearby power substation. Out of the four kids, one was killed, and a second was horribly scarred. That kind of ruined the whole hanging out around high-voltage thing for me....

ah yes, good old Sulfur Hexaflouride... Wont be seeing too many more substations using that stuff, it being a fairly potent greenhouse gas and all. But the kW quenching capabilities of SF6 are hard to match by either air or oil interrupters....

If the service is excellent, it's a comparable tip. If the service is passable, it's about 15% standard for the wife and I. If the service is poor it drops to about 10%. If the service really sucks then we pay cash TO THE PENNY. No tip. I have been to restaurants where a gratuity was added for large groups of my friends and I and if we didn't feel that the 18% was appropriate we simply didn't pay it. We didn't not pay the check, that's stupid. The customer decides what the gratuity is, not the business....

The TSA at JFK stole a $3000.00 camera from my baggage yesterday (12/3/2009). I was one of the first passengers off of the plane in Paris and actually spotted my bag as it was being unloaded from the plane. It looked suspiciously flat. I was worried that my equipment had been crushed in flight. However, when I picked up my baggage from the baggage claim belt, it was not only flat, but was light as a feather. My camera and lenses were all gone, stolen by some gorilla who doesn't have enough sense to operate a camera. I'm sure it's...

Many of those who commented on that article were obsessed with the idea that the writer was going to be endangering the rest of us by contaminating us with his weird parasite, despite the facts that a) it would be extremely unlikely that anyone could catch it from him since it would require his shitting in soggy warm ground that people would then walk barefoot in, plus they would have to stay there a long time or come back repeatedly to get a more than a few tiny worms since the ones...
