Commented on Communist-era store windows
Looks like Buffalo. There's only one clothing window display I know of downtown here. It's for a shop that exclusively sells scrubs. It's amusing because we get a fair number international tourists (proximity to Niagara Falls) wandering around getting an...

Commented on Kool-Aid Man Is Giving NSFW Tours In Second Life [Wow, There's Still A Second Life?]
It's like 28 Days Later only instead of zombies all that is left is furries and sexbots, who presumable rose up and slaughtered everyone else. And the Kool-Aid Man instead of Cillian Murphy....

Commented on Don't Copy That Floppy sequel promises prison beatings for copying
I thought it might be a parody too, that montage was pretty much the limit of what a parody could be, but when the rapping started there was no doubt in my mind that it was genuine....

Commented on Chinese iPhone knock-off looks just like an iPhone, barely works
My favorite knockoff is the HiPhine from 'iOrgane.' From videos I've seen it appears to be more responsive, but mainly I respect it for the audacity of the company's name combined with the epic failure at spelling it....

Commented on Video: StevenF's iPhone 3GS Unboxing
"This is an example of the kind of thing where Apple goes the extra mile." Ice cube tray. Heh. Maybe there have been too many of these unboxing parodies but this guy really nails it....

Commented on Tanked
The point is that the rest of the market was doing pretty much the same thing. That makes it unlikely that reports of Jobs' health was the main factor, unless you think they sent the Nasdaq down too....

Commented on Afghanistan's only pig in quarantine
Iraq killed the 3 pigs it had in it's zoo too. It's pretty ridiculous since they couldn't have been exposed to any Mexican pigs recently and the odds of a dangerous mutation in a population that small are even lower...

Commented on Who gives a damn about AT&T's entitlement to iPhone exclusivity?
It's called Stockholm Syndrome. People who get locked into these long contracts and are abused have a tendency to sympathize with their captors. It's the only thing that makes sense to me....

Yah! Two more months that pickup line works....

Commented on Jordan Crane's amazing cover for Michael Chabon's Maps and Legends
I think Thames: Sacred River had at least 2, plus a full length jacket. I can't find any pictures online, but the outer bands had a sort of Medieval watercolor and underneath was a tunnel going under the river from...

Commented on Nudist typeface has pixellated "naughty bits"
That's amusing, but the censorship seems a bit arbitrary. I'd have blurred the other end of the 'r' and the saucy dots on the 'i.' They are called tittles, by the way. Sure it might adversely affect readability but that's...

Commented on Horseradish smell fire-alarm for waking up deaf people
This reminds me of one of my father's favorite tricks, when I was growing up on a farm. He'd be grinding fresh horseradish in a blender and innocently invite a passerby to take a whiff at close proximity. I think...

Commented on Sarah Connor Chronicles (Terminator) ARG sneak peek: part 1.
IANAP (physicist) but to me it seems that if these particles travel 'instantaneously,' for the events to 'outrun' the lightwaves and break the light cone by a certain amount of time, they must be correspondingly distant. So events you see...

Commented on Mike Brady's angry Shakespearean critique of the Brady Bunch scripts
The best thing is the link is citing one of those Brady Bunch memos in a rant about some upcoming Zelda game (posted in 2001 so maybe Wind Waker). I love the internet....

Commented on Frankenstein light switch
Yeah, that's a great idea. I want to put in a switch like the RIGHT BY MY SINK so I can turn on the light while my hands are soaking wet. That would be brilliant. Assuming I can't get one...

Commented on Overweight people have lower death rate
The question that came to my mind after the first paragraph was 'how old are these people?' It doesn't seem possible that the CDC would ignore age, but there's no information in the article. For all we know, the two...

Commented on King Corn/Count Smokula
7 million pounds seems a bit high. Assuming the guy is 40 (he looked a lot younger to me) that works out to almost 480 pounds per day. I grew up on a farm and having lugged around more than...

Commented on Furries vs Klingons bowling tournament this Sat in Atlanta
I think it would be best for everyone if the furies lost. Honor satisfied, everyone goes home alive....
