Commented on What MP3 player should I buy?
The missing piece of the puzzle is for rockbox to provide support for keeping track which podcasts have been listened to and current location within. Rockbox developers, you listening? Don't let Cory down!...
-
Commented on Arnold Schwarzenegger's coded F-bomb in veto
What are the odds of a human being ending up capable of having multiple careers as world class bodybuilder, movie actor, and politician through simple Darwinian selection and mutation? Pretty low. But it happens. Statistics doesn't help us in sleuthing...

Commented on Couple survives car crash in their house
That girlfriend sure knows how to pick 'em....
-
Commented on Goat rentals for clearing brush
Yep, we've had the goats clearing the wildfire buffer zone on our Bay Area property for decade or so now. The goatherder pulls his fifth wheel trailerhome on to the property and lives there for a week or so while...
-
Commented on Reversing the brain impairments caused by sleeplessness
Sounds more like a chicken than an egg. There are plenty of well hatched chicks already... caffeine, meth, red bull....
-
Commented on Inexplicably expensive iPhone accessory (video stabilizer)
I could see this used by live bloggers who don't want to bother with the technical issues involved in interfacing their cameras to cellular modems....
-
Commented on Yahoo hires lap-dancers to entertain at its open, inclusive Hack Day event
Maybe those hack girls were just energetic developers who needed to work off some energy and get some exercise after a long day of coding. At least in my fantasies....

Commented on Wild Mook: Japanese '80s fanzine devoted to American cops
Weird but true: I've been sitting at home today feeling blah not wanting to go outside, but this cover is motivating me to shower up and head to the McDonalds next to the police station for some cop watchin'. Thanks...

Commented on Wild Mook: Japanese '80s fanzine devoted to American cops
Is it just me, or does the front seat of the "69" police car appear to be reclining quite a bit? As if those bench seats weren't already spacious enough....

Commented on Legal battle over Shepard Fairey Obama poster takes an unexpected turn
AP the giant has a posse...
-
Commented on EFF comes to the rescue of Texas Instruments calculator hackers
The DMCA does grant exceptions, but the EFF isn't saying which exception they think applies in this case. Why can't anyone just speak plainly these days? Oh, right, the lawyers....
-
Commented on Urban surveillance as a game?
Google "Tenderloin webcam"; a similar game ended really quickly when the cam operator received death threats. But while it was going the live chat room was quite surreal. I remember lots of racist comments when I logged in at 3am...

Commented on A bidet wherever you go
I hate to say it, but my travel bidet is a water cup, the same one that gets "sanitized" and put back in your hotel room. It seems to me the problem with most any bidet that involves a tube...
-
Commented on San Francisco police officer arresting skateboarder: "I'll break your arm like a fckng twig."
Yet another reason for answering all questions from cops with "I'm not answering questions without a lawyer". The kid gave an honest answer to the cop's question "Why are you pissed off?", and learned that honest answers to cop's questions...

Commented on American woman marries auto-rickshaw driver
Sadly this story makes me feel more cynical than hopeful....

Commented on Indiana prosecutor says she's duty bound to prosecute grandma who bought cold medicine
On the other hand... it's even more of a travesty to have laws that are only enforced against "questionable" people, ignored for "fine upstanding" people. Give the cops an inch of leeway and they'll hang the guys that piss them...
-
Commented on Indiana prosecutor says she's duty bound to prosecute grandma who bought cold medicine
Although the Prosecutor is a tool, the real boneheads are the lawmakers that created this law. I wouldn't be surprised if hackers figure out a way to tap into the lawmaker's drugstore records and see if they've violated any laws....
-
Commented on Rocket-shaped air blower for removing dust
The design is actually practical too: Keeps the tip up away from contamination and minimizes horizontal surface for dust to gather on. It's almost as powerful as canned air, and much safer on the equipment and the earth....
-
Commented on Oligarch's yacht has a laser anti-photo screen
So this thing just detects retroreflectors? Seems like the obvious countermeasure is to put a stronger retroreflector nearby or on another boat. Better yet, use an infrared laser at the same frequency and aim at at the paparazzi jammer to...

Commented on Bulletproof glass demonstration
Was the shooter Darren Brown? It seemed off to me in several ways. The first shot knocks the glass back pretty hard, would have smacked her in the face if it didn't hit off to the side. But a subsequent...
-
Commented on Possible solution for Derren Brown's lottery trick
I recently saw Chris Angel's live Vegas show, and I was supremely entertained by the elaborate sets, props, and Hollywood-caliber visual effects. But I was also supremely disillusioned. His live show was much more run of the mill than his...

Commented on Damien Hirst installation owner charges teen art-rival with theft of £500,000 for removing box of pencils from installation
Snig, you nailed it. The most dangerous players in this drama are the "art cops". They should be protecting society from sociopaths, not doing their bidding....
-
Commented on Placebo effect is getting stronger
Great article, but it missed the possibility that pharma nudged test results in the past to make placebos appear not as good as the drugs. And now that testing is becoming more controlled, transparent, and rigorous, they can't cheat as...
-
Commented on Breast implant serial numbers used to identify murder victim
Yes Cicada! I'd love to see creepy declarations for all privacy encroachments. "As a mandatory requirement for using a cell phone, you must wear a gps transceiver that will allow the spooks to track you wherever you go."...
-
Commented on Why we walk in circles without directional cues
Try swimming in open water. I find I have to lift my head and reorient to a landmark every couple of breaths or else I can waste a lot of time circling. It would be interesting to find out the...

Commented on What would you do with a Class C IP block?
The cash for clunkers program seems to be running short on server space. How about some cash for ip addresses, uncle sam?...

Commented on Food and wine as collateral for bank loans
Sounds like pigs that will get fat, while here in America, we're heading to slaughter....
-
Commented on Continental imprisons 50 passengers overnight in grounded plane with no food, overflowing toilets
At what point do we declare that Al Queda has won? They've gotten us to give up all the freedoms that made this country great. They repeatedly use our own airplanes as weapons against us....

Commented on Naked burglar caught on video
This is the best thing I've read on boingboing this week. So elemental, caveman, and hunter-gatherer. In some strange way it restores my faith in the creativity of humanity. Yeah, I need to get some sleep, but thank you naked...

Commented on Freak with bullhorn stands on Verizon CEO's lawn berating him over the freak-with-bullhorn-related privacy implications of Verizon's crappy database security
Something doesn't quite add up... the google maps satellite view versus what was in the video makes it look like John was in the right neighborhood but wrong house, although that could very well be an artifact of the inaccuracy...
