Commented on EZ Cracker egg cracker
Haha. I'd like to see someone who can whip up a meringue with a hand whisk (!), but has trouble cracking an egg....
-
Commented on Coffee flavor Yoplait
That'd be the 26 grams of sugar per 8 ounces. (or artificial sweeteners in the "light" kind)....

Commented on WTF is "Dairy Drink?"
Dairy drink is gross; fruit "punch" ("contains 5% juice!") is revolting. But I think vat-grown chicken would be great and probably sell well after initial skepticism. Just contrast the dire prediction of a future of unwashed masses eating soy food,...

Commented on Sabotage on the Large Hadron Collider?
apoxia: Time travel is just cosmology, which makes Physical Review D the "good" research journal. Here is a fun article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novikov_self-consistency_principle....

Commented on Nasal spray for memory enhancement
@2: I think that was probably desmopressin. Never did a thing for me, although the promise and anticipation was kind of exciting. There aren't that many shortcuts for learning, except to win the genetic and/or behavioral lottery....

Commented on American health care UI: snapshot
guysmiley: from your link: "I will discuss how the ... addition of user-friendly features ... contributed to the radiation accidents." It seems that unnecessary improvements in that case, made things worse (or at least didn't improve the things that were...

Commented on Chemex coffee brewing guide
Supposedly, many drip machines don't heat the water enough, which makes for a bland brew. Boiling your own water mostly solves this problem, although it should be at like 195F or so, so you should let it cool a little....

Commented on Adobe: Once you license software in France, you can only use it in French
#18: you've gotta be kidding. First, the munitions classification was killed by the Clinton administration; it's now under commerce restriction, not military. Further, the export limitation was only for keys above 40 bits, so "password-protecting" a file in the perfunctory...

Commented on It's Questionable Video Saturday!
Bear sodomy; never fails for a few laughs. Reminds me of one of the articles in The Onion's _Our Dumb Century_. Although this webpage doesn't give credit or citation, it is a word-for-word copy of the article: http://members.fortunecity.com/mtracey/christy.htm...

Commented on Living things glow with visible light
Interesting. Of course it's also been known for a while (since 1942) that, when humans are in scotopic vision-mode (="night vision"), our eyes can respond to a single photon. Maybe this light isn't totally subliminal... http://math.ucr.edu/home/baez/physics/Quantum/see_a_photon.html...

Commented on Iranian media mistakes Kasper Hauser comedy group as a "virtual reality 'terrorist' group," of "cyber hackers"
This scenario is very late-Gibson-esque, but funnier....
-
Commented on Richard Feynman plays the bongos
@10: According to his account, the reason for Challenger was an "open secret" and the people he talked to basically told him what it was. They just needed the appearance of a Nobel physicist to give it the air of...
-
Commented on Christopher Hitchens vs. Ken Blackwell of The Family Research Council
I guess that the "Working" supersedes "Families" in signifying power. (and the Obama:Socialist connection is worth, of course, absolutely nothing)...

Commented on State of the Hispanic Blogosphere report 2009
Tilted 3D pie charts. Skewalicious... Steve Jobs would be proud....

Commented on Couple finds $10 mil in their bank account, take it and run
@9: Purses: OK, that's essentially the same thing as a twenty. And they're all innocent afaic; it's a moronic law. If you find something, it's yours. You can return it if you want to be nice....
-
Commented on Couple finds $10 mil in their bank account, take it and run
Technically, most jurisdictions have laws against keeping found cash too. I have heard that in NYC, there have actually been police stings on this: the cops leave a few twenties lying around and bust you if you don't turn it...

Commented on Stinkum from fridge full of putrid cow-orker chow causes AT&T office evac
@1: Yeah, it's kind of sad that "ammonia"+"bleach"="death" is not 100% common knowledge any more. It's not even worth it to our country to teach that; it's more efficient to sell individual "X cleaner" for 100 different X's, and bury...

Commented on Walking Dead Compendium One
Paperback spines hit harder; the compressed sheaves of paper are more solid than cardboard or pleather. They just don't last as long, but hopefully you'll have found a sturdier armament by then....

Commented on Can a computer discover scientific laws?
50K trials? Am I to conclude that Edison didn't have any intuition? It sounds like a modern computer scientist could code a replacement for him....

Commented on ColorQube: is wax the future of color printing?
My family had an okidata printer when I was a kid. They required special paper which (my family told me) cost a lot of money, so I couldn't use it. I'm assuming this is true. The new ColorQube supposedly uses...

Commented on Why people think it's OK to cheat a little bit
Yeah, even the "cause" of getting 3 extra questions right on a meaningless math test. Go humanity....
-
Commented on Liberal hunting permit
"Pendelum." Great, now I'm going to wonder for the next half hour about whether I missed a clever/macaroni pun or if the author is illiterate. Prendre=take? Penser=think? Argh!...

Commented on Pig Flu: Et Tu, Pooh?
It's an excerpt. Pooh's paragraph might follow on the next page, hence no closing quote on this sentence....
-
Commented on KeepCup, which is basically a plastic cup
At least in NYC, this use violates health regulations, or so I've been told by a bitter and ranty coffeeshop owner....

Commented on 4 Things to Consider Before You Try to Join the Amish
@19: I was surprised to see Santorum fighting the puppy-mills. Sort of warmed my heart. I guess everyone's good for something. Also, didn't we have this "Are the Amish regressive scumbags?" discussion here a few months ago?...

Commented on Props
Leon's boxy four-barreled pistol in the beginning of Blade Runner is real. Persephone uses the same gun in the Matrix sequel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COP_357_Derringer Apparently the original purpose of it was to be simple enough to secretly manufacture in mass quantity to...

Commented on Cannonball floating in mercury
The one ring is intelligent and can make people invisible. Clearly the magical AI indwelling, used up all of its power reserves in a last-ditch effort to lower the local entropy and save itself. (It must err on the side...
