Commented on Plastics industry releases anti-cloth-bag FUD study
Cue some "Green" company coming in to save the day with with fancy silver-ion-imbued cloth bags (which inhibits bacterial growth). ... But is also pretty horrible for the environment itself. Every solution we introduce into society brings its own set...

Commented on English schoolkids go on strike until CCTVs are removed from classes
@33: It appears as though the cameras ARE focused on the teacher. If you read the comments in the original article, there are quite a number from people claiming to be part of the school, and what happened was this:...

Commented on English schoolkids go on strike until CCTVs are removed from classes
I'm as much against the Big Brother direction of the UK these days as the next guy, but I thought I should mention this video where Bill Gates makes some remarkably good points for using CCTV in classrooms to improve...

Commented on Reaching for the Apocalypse
On the other hand, species-level threats occur on this world all the time (well, on an evolutionary scale) and yeah, sometimes animals do get wiped out by stuff like this. I'm not saying I'm really all that interested in this...

Commented on The Strange Realm of Infra-Red: 2
These posts actually contain rather incorrect information. These cameras are not 'capturing' in the infrared spectrum. So it is not right to think that this is what the infrared spectrum would look like if one could see it. Instead, infrared...

Commented on Infrared LEDs make you invisible to CCTV cameras
This device is not for protection from normal visible-light CCTV cameras, most of which have infrared filters installed, but only for infrared cameras, which I think are relatively rare....

Commented on Yoko Ono: No, I'm not suing Lennon Murphy over "Lennon."
@ 50: "It seems that Lennon Murphy told Yoko that she intended to go by "Lennon", Yoko said that sounded fine" No. This is NOT the issue; people are still NOT reading Yoko's statement properly. The correct statement is that...

Commented on Yoko Ono: No, I'm not suing Lennon Murphy over "Lennon."
After reading this a few times, I think what actually might be happening here is that Yoko IS in fact pursuing some course of legal action (perhaps not a law suit specifically) against usage of the name "Lennon" by itself....

Commented on Yoko Ono: No, I'm not suing Lennon Murphy over "Lennon."
Actually, upon further investigation, it appears as though LM probably already owns the trademark for the name "Lennon" and that Yoko is attempting to take it away. Is John Lennon ever marketed as only "Lennon?" If not, I'm not sure...

Commented on Yoko Ono: No, I'm not suing Lennon Murphy over "Lennon."
Is there any possibility we are mis-reading Yoko's statement? While it sounds like LM is applying for a sort of "sole usage" trademark on Lennon (sorry, I'm no lawyer so my terminology here is probably ridiculous), could is be possible...
