Commented on HOWTO make scary guts out of expanding foam insulation
DO NOT get this stuff on your hands. I got spray foam insulation on my hands once and it was hell getting it off. It's the only time I've ever seriously considered cutting off my own hands....

Commented on London cops finally apologise for mugging geek -- four years later
@#8 Danlalan It only takes one example to prove a generalization wrong. That said, In the US, I've never seen the type of police that write apology letters. Most of my interactions have left me with the impression that they...

Commented on London cops finally apologise for mugging geek -- four years later
This is what I love about the UK. American cops would never ever apologize and wouldn't even be able to write anything with that many sentences in it....

Commented on Independent comic book artists draw Marvel's superheros
@11 I'm not sure when DC did the Bizarro stuff, but this isn't exactly Marvel's first forray into "treating it's heroes with such irreverence". They had the long running Peter Porker the Spectacular Spider Ham parody comic, Obnoxio the Clown...

Commented on Photos of parkour
Once again the word Parkour is used for stuff that would be more appropriately titled "Free Running". As a general rule of thumb, the flips and more showy stuff (while admittedly very cool), is usually free running. Parkour is concerned...

Commented on Listen: Animal Collective's My Girls, in 8-bits
would it be a terrible idea to put vocoded vocals over these? it might not be 100% authentic, but it would still be pretty rad....

Commented on Phones confiscated at preview screenings: whose hypothetical risk is more important?
Maybe they're taking phones because people can't be trusted to turn off their ringers? I'm not sure if I'd mind if they did this at all movie theaters actually....
-
Commented on Storefronts of a fading New York
@7 Don't be skeptical. This is a pretty real phenomenon. I see it all the time in Brooklyn. The worst is when some old timey family run spot gets taken over by the next generation. They inevitably take an incredible...

Commented on How cats manipulate us
My cat knows not to meow until I'm already out of bed. He gets fed two times a day and the rest of the time he keeps his mouth shut. Maybe it's breed specific, but i've never had the problems...

Commented on Japanese cops hassling foreigners on the street for urine drug tests
A friend of mine spent a year working in Japan. She told me that just before the Olympic torch came through town, Japanese cops came to her apt. to make sure she wasn't a terrorist. They basically visited and interrogated...

Commented on Video games good for the brain?
Personally, I find I'm way better at blowing red lights and running down pedestrians after hours of playing GTA, so I'd have to agree with their findings....
-
Commented on HOWTO drive a Model T
I already know how to do this. Learned it when I was 5-years-old. It's soooo easy to do. Flying a jet with your feet is way harder, I can do that also. I am awesome. Thanks for wasting my time...

Commented on LA's vegan restaurants are full of egg
The amount of close-minded people flinging generalizations around on boing boing these days is astounding. I feel like I'm on the O'Reilly Factor message boards or something....
-
Commented on LA's vegan restaurants are full of egg
@all the posters who think eating mock meat is hypocritical. There are only so many textures that food can come in. And most vegetarians/vegans started out life eating meat and then made a choice to stop. It's natural (and instinctual)...
-
Commented on Rubber Room: documentary about New York teacher purgatory
@Dequeued Amen brother. There are undoubtedly some great, truly inspiring, straight-outta-the-movies teachers out there. I had one that I can think of. Unfortunately I can make a long, long list of teachers and administrators who didn't care, blatantly lied, were...

Commented on Lovecraft meets Atlas Obscura
@#15 I think Alan Moore may have been drawing on the Quabbin Reservoir as inspiration for his Swamp Thing story about a flooded town full of underwater vampires. Just speculation on my part, but he has used Atlas Obscura type...
