Commented on IT restrictions hurt productivity
As a (prior life) IT manager I have to side with the users. Using your computer should not be some damn puzzle of what and how to do: it should just work. IT folk should be working with the firewalls...

Commented on Quadrophenia scooter sold at auction
I was a mod before you was a mod....
-
Commented on Quadrophenia scooter sold at auction
"How come I can't be a mod AND a rocker?" Because that would make you a "Rod" or a "Mocker" and no matter which bar you went too, you'd get your heid kicked in......

Commented on The Wearable Towel
"silly! no one here WRITES!" or knits....
-
Commented on New fashion copyright bill will let big companies own public domain designs and bury young, indie designers in legal costs
"Go back to making your own for yourself." Takuan, trust me, it wasn't a pretty sight. If I get the wool, will you knit for me?...
-
Commented on Twitter Tracker Twitter Tracker Twitter Tracker!
Not allowing non-US folks to view the video does suck -- but asking/demanding that BB not report on things not available everywhere sucks also. Should BB not report on anything not available in, say, China?...

Commented on Ryanair serious about charging to use toilets in-flight, may charge extra "breathing fee" for inhaling during flight
I'd pay someone a fiver to wipe my ass, if it was after a sloppy movement. I'm kinda hairy "back there" and my elbow gets tired....
-
Commented on Homeless people and the Internet
"it's nice to know that no one really cares on a global scale" Now there's a statement that can be read many ways! I trust it applies to the non-freaked total paranoid folks who don't lock down their WiFi networks...
-
Commented on Using a 1964 modem to dial up to the Internet -- Boing Boing Gadgets
Dial-up is still useful: the backup network for your local Apple Store for example is an Airport base station (with it's antennas clipped) which will dial into Cupertino for POS stuff should the stores T1 go down. It's not great,...

Commented on RunPee: when you should leave the movie and have a wee?
"And yeah, don't go climbing all over me because you can't hold your bladder." Wouldn't the alternative be even worse?...
-
Commented on Pool rules at Florida condo complex
The text of rule 1 bothers me. Why underline the 29? Why use a # instead of "number"? Why abbreviate "Maximum" to "Max" (and not even use a period to show you know you did?) It's not like there was...

Commented on My mom Mary on her video game addiction, her stupid GPS, and the gadget she wished she had
"That game gave me shoulder pains and bad eyesight." My mother tells me something similar gave me the same symptoms....

Commented on Brit MP saw undercover cops egging crowd to riot at G20
"Family men" have been common in the UK for years. They are pretty obvious, but the problem becomes what to do to deal with them? Ask them to leave and they won't, ask them not to chuck rocks at people...

Commented on Apple censors NIN iPhone app
Ah, poor Apple, painting themselves into such a tiny little corner. Restricting apps based on security issues, platform stability, or other legitimate concerns is one thing; deciding what is filthy and disgusting quite another. But it may make for good,...
-
Commented on Court turns down challenge to jury's use of Bible
This terrible, terrible person took the life of another in a fit of anger: it's only responsible that we the state, after due and level-headed deliberation and consultation take his. It's just that simple. (Minded)....
-
Commented on UK wine-sellers declare that wine has horoscopes, advise wine-drinkers to avoid certain moon-days
"How is this sillier than normal astrology?" Err, how could -anything- be, really? But I'm sure some folks will lap it up....
-
Commented on BB Video: Cyberpipe's Mecca of Vintage Computers
Valdis: the Apple ][ sold computers to business in huge numbers, even before you include the massive numbers of clones sold worldwide. Prior to this, having a computer in your workspace was akin to having some Lego. Sure, Visicalc can...
-
Commented on Penn Jillette on legalizing pot
"One is entitled to have opinions, to vote their opinion, and if in the majority, to have their opinion become the law of the land" Possibly the most horrific statement I've ever heard. We have laws to protect the rights...
-
Commented on BB Video: Cyberpipe's Mecca of Vintage Computers
The PC XT was the first widely used business computer? I guess the Apple ][ hadn't be thought of back then....

Commented on David Gibbs against robot love
Bloo, the mental image of lawyer-on-lawyer-on-lawyer love you just placed in my mind has overcooked my man noodle for hours, if not days. I should sue....

Commented on 12 things the latest trailer taught me about the new Star Trek
Re: Starfleet accepts aliens, but not many -- well, at this point in time they've not met all that many of them I guess....
-
Commented on David Gibbs against robot love
I worry: they don't want to allow John X to marry his faithful sheepdog Shep, but they don't seem to care that when he gets home he's going to !@#$ it anyway....

Commented on Britain's vast cement "listening ears" designated a national landmark
Re: "the government quango" As quango is an abbreviation of quasi-autonomous non-governmental organisation", #12's suggestion may well suit better!...

Commented on More unsold inventory piling up: Toyota stores unsold cars aboard ship
In addition to the Option U followed by keystroke, you can also use "Edit: Special Characters" (Command Alt T) to find any accented character you like. Like the Option U, this should work in any application with text editing....
