Back in the day I was very close to getting the original ... now I just tried again .. and for reasons unknown, my CC info is not getting through ... GRRRR called CC company .. they say everything is fine ... problem on chumby's side ??? don't know .. ah well .. after reading the comments .. maybe using it outside the US is not that great anyways...

Using the Chumby is fine outside the US, and most widgets work fine, especially in countries where it can be freely bought because there are developers creating content for them (lots of Australian and Japanese ones recently). Certain functions (such as Pandora) are restricted by the terms of that service, however. @#16 They still make the cute leather one. This version is a cheaper, entry-level design. I guess the plastic is cheaper than the leather......

You could try using something like Pembina Parcel Service, or Menke's Parcel Service. The fees seem reasonable when compared to the current alternatives....

I love, LOVE my Chumby. Mine usually displays the time, but jumps to weather reports, personal photos, and webcams of my city so I know what to wear for the day. Having a Pandora station as your alarm is fantastic. I'm not sure what the official statement on ads is now. I read that during pre-release it would display ads sometimes, but for the two-ish years I've had mine, I've never noticed one.
